Registeration question

I have a 2008 r6 and I got it from this cop in Victoria.

He gave me the title but did not give me the bill of sale, or I don't remember taking it. my mistake. now the registration's expired. I just got back from vacation and the registration sticker's expired.

Is there any way I can renew the registration for now and transfer the title later?

Please help....

Thanks, Sean

No, once it's expired you have to go pay in person. And they will ask for insurance, and will mail the sticker to the old registered address even if they disregard that you don't own the vehicle.

You can, however transfer and get new tags and stickers at the same time in the same transaction at the tax office.
Bill of sale is no longer needed. You do need the 130U form from TXDOT though.

you pay tax title and registration at the same time. the state wants their monies.
or go give them a story and get a temp tag . that way they still get a little money

If you have the title, check the back. Make sure it's signed and filled out in your name.

Print out and fill out the 130-U. I posted link above. Get person to sign it. Go to tax office and transfer it, say you need new tags and plates as well. Make sure to bring your insurance card with you.

Your only option then is to have the previous owner get the sticker for you. But that would also require him to have insurance for the motorcycle that he no longer owns.

This. It is cheap, they ask no questions. Take your Vin, your license, and insurance and I think it is $25 for 30 days. Get a temp tag.

I don't think a bill of sale is even worth the paper its written on... I've always shown up to the tax office w/ one, but have yet to be asked to show it. If he signed the front & back of the title, all you need is a title transfer form, & you can get a titled in your name.

Texas Title Transfer form & instuctions below... Last 2 pages are the forms you need... they're typically on 1 page though front & back... you need the front filled out.

i think all you need is the title with his and your signature on it. no need for bill of sale

hopefully the sale date isnt on there. the longer you wait the more it costs to transfer

I'm pretty sure they go by the value of the bike regardless of what you actually paid, so there's no need for the bill of sale. You'll have to pay some sort of 'late' fee, too, on your registration. I had to when I let my reg expire because my bike was wrecked - cost nearly double to re-register it.

If you can't afford they bike, why did you buy the bike? Not trying to cause drama or be mean; it's a valid question.

That would still require transferring title, no?

nope. I bought my bike from a guy in Louisiana. Couldn't get an inspection because my front tire was lacking tread. Without inspection, no green card. Had the money for the title but not title and tire etc etc etc. I got paper temp tags with no questions asked. Just require insurance.

No, temporary tag. 30 day tag. Every 30 days you have to renew. Just buys you time. You have to remove your metal plates for this. This does not equal registration renewal. Just like an extension.
