This looks a bit like a Brazillian rider's R-1...the rider is named Fernando. I believe he lives in College Station. I think he is the person I met a coupla weeks ago that had just mounted up some race takeoff slicks on his street bike.

Hope he is OK. I will see what I can find out.

Yep that is his bike. Saw him a couple weeks back and we were trying to convince him to get some new tires because those slicks were trashed. That's definitely him though, sucks because that bike was gorgeous....

Mostly inexperienced, from my discussions with him.

He seemed much more comfortable listening to guys on another forum than he was in listening to me sitting right across the table from him, but hey.....I raced WERA and CMRA for years (as a mid pack novice....certainly a slow guy but I understand a few things about going slow & surviving on a track), and have done probably 1000+ laps at TWS (Texas World Speedway). What do I know?

He mentioned his lap times after 2 track days......sub 2 minutes, without ever touching down a knee. What can I say.....that's pretty quick for a newb. I probably had a half dozen sub 2 min laps on my 750 over all those years. I am thankful that my only crash there was in the carousel. Turn 7? The funnest turn on the track on my RVF 400, but I would not want to crash there. I hated it when they increased the height of the curbs back there. A bit of a shock for me the first time I went wailing in there after that mod.

When I was riding an Aprilia Ride Smart 250 and went to a Mototec/AMS trackday at TWS (Texas World Speedway), I went into T7 on the first lap warming up with Jeff Nash right behind me and someone had JUST oiled it down with a blown engine. Somehow, Jeff and I made it through, before a multi bike pileup ensued. It wasn't pretty. The guy continued riding and oiled the track all the way to the carousel.....

If anybody knows Fernando's last name, send me a PM....the hospital wouldn't let me see him because I didn't know his last name.

His name is Fernando Weberich. He gave me his card once because he owns a photography studio in town.

For those who were wondering, i broke the femur head and had to have a total hip replacement. Also had lung lacerations as well as kidney lacerations, and some small fractures in the spine.

Slicks in level 2? Yes, i was using it even in level one, since the stock tires in my bike were sliping on the turn exits, i got them for a pretty good price.

What was i thinking? Well, i was pretty happy that day because i was in level 2 and i felt too much safety changing levels, i thought it would be Ok to throttle a little more than normal. I did not realize the speed of the guys that were doing turn 7 and i had no choice besides going off the track and try to escape any possible hazard in the way. I am very sorry for the guy that was behind me, and he probably saw that i throttled so he would hit me. I got out of the track at more than 100mph and could just stop the bike little by little since i was making a curve in the grass.

Another thing too is, i never said i was doing sub 2 minutes in the track, my best time was 2:01 and thats why i went to level 2, and no, i never hit my knees in the ground.

I really appreciate your help that day after the crash (you misterious guy, hahahaha), that was the worst experience i had in my life and the few seconds you stayed there with me are of a great value for me. The bike is crashed but will be fixed in a few weeks, and we'll be back as soon as my wife allows me.

Well, at least i'll go there to see you guys ride.

Long life all!

I was cornerworking TWS (Texas World Speedway) five / six years ago and saw a guy on a SV run off mid turn at 90+ on this same turn. It was a minor lowside, when he touched the rear tire of a bike in front of him. He and bike launched over the berm. His bike tumbled end over end about 200 feet, he cartwheeled at least 3-4 times and came down face down, hard, and not breathing. We red flagged the race, crossed the track, and he was out cold 1-2 minutes. Before the ambulance arrived he started breathing and ended up standing up on his own a minute later. Ended up with a well rung bell, and a broken thumb. Scary stuff.

Funniest part of it all:

ME: What's your name?

RIDER: It's XXXX

ME: XXXX, Do you know where you are?

RIDER: Texas World

ME: Do you know what day it is?

RIDER: Sunday

ME: What year?

RIDER: No idea

ME: Month?

RIDER: Not a clue.

ME: President

RIDER: Reagan? Nixon? Carter?

ME: How did you know it was Sunday?

RIDER: Cause that's my sprint bike, so it must be Sunday, cause sprints are on Sunday. Hey, can you tell that ambulance to hurry up. I don't wanna miss the next race!

He begged the ambulance crew to let him race once he figured out where he was and what was going on. He remembers none of the incident, or any of the weekend.
