New to this forum

Just a quick intro since I only found this site yesterday! I've already seen 1 guy on here from another forum I check out a lot and it seems like there is a whole lot of knowledge on here and I've always got a lot to learn, it seems. I live in SE Houston, grew up in Baytown, bought a 79 FLH 80ci last year in Georgia and rode her home and I've been working on rebuilding her ever since. I'll finally have the bike back on the road on the 18th. It's been 9 months of working 3 jobs and for a couple of months selling my own blood plasma to get to this point but I'm finally there. Mines a little older than most and definitely a lot slower than most on here but if you see me on the road feel free to wave or say hi or whatever. The most recent pic of the bike is from two weeks ago at the shop I used for all the hard stuff, which was almost everything. The bike is finally back together and just back from a test ride. The air cleaner is off to play with the jets and carb adj. I'm the smiling fool in the saddle.

History is just one of the reasons I love the bike. I'm not an old man by any means but you just don't see shovelheads anymore and when I was a kid, you saw guys on them everywhere. When I rode it home last Dec., (nearly froze to death doing it), every place I stopped people walked up. Sometimes they acted like idiots, (like the guy who insisted that I had swapped a Road King front end onto my non-harley just to look cool), to a whole lot of awesome people who knew enough about bikes to know what mine is and to swap stories about their old bikes "back in the day".

Here's a write-up I did on another site about the bike and the trip home. Has some pics and I think it's pretty cool.

I've been reading some threads about that very thing. It definitely sounds like something I want to do. I know how to ride but I have no experience riding in a group for sure and the only way you learn is by doing. Besides, what's the point of owning a bike if you don't ride it? I pick my bike up the morning of the 18th, (it's in a shop in Huntsville that has a mechanic who knows the old bikes), and I'm heading back to Houston with it to celebrate. Saturday afternoons and Sundays I plan to be out on the bike getting my kicks. If you guys have something going on let me know.
