9/5/95 John Britten... RIP

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Britten

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britten_V1000

There is always something to be said about a person that decides he is going to build a motorcycle in his garage... and then decided to take on the world with it. It is a shame he died, his bikes were amazing and while a bit quirky.. were amazing.

I was fortunate enough that as a kid, I was at one of the last races that it competed at, and it was an amazing bike to see in person.

the v1000 was a rocket, compared to the bikes it was racing. and kinda makes me wonder what might have happen had he stuck around a bit longer.

wow! neverwouldathunkyoudidntknow

he was the "pre-caligone" caligone in his prime

I used to have that particular magazine issue, and I remember leafing through it many many times. sadly It was trashed, probably during a move. Kind of afraid to see what it may be worth (or if not worth anything, how hard it may be to find again)

The shocker that I think MOST of us had about the bike was that this happened early 90's. NOTHING came close to the design (except maybe some cafe racers of "yesteryear".)

looking at bikes of the FZR 600/1000, CRB 900 RR's, Ninja 750's (then 900) and the CBR 600/1000's... this thing was ALIEN

.no frame

.sexy minimal bodywork.

.was very fast, and very light.

.....whoah, unless you were a female rider (and that was rare for sportbikes..extremely rare) there was no HOT PINK, or BABY POWDER BLUE on a sportbike.

.designed by one man

this thing created a an category 5 superstorm in the sportbiking world.

Just a sexy, classy, but also a "kick-your-face-into-your-" bike.
