Moto Noob

I am completely new to motorcycle riding. I only have two days experience and those days were when I was taking the motorcycle class. I passed everything but I still can't get my Class M license because I don't have my class C. Even with a 100 they couldn't make an exception but oh well, no more whining. The bike I currently want to get is a Harley-Davidson XR1200. I did a lot of bouncing around before I saw this bike. At first I wanted a Kawasaki Ninja 650, then a Honda CBR600, anything within those two companies, and now the XR1200. But with me being new I may go back to the Honda. If anyone has any suggestions for a Noob like me on what bike I should get. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Noob781

hey man welcome! i'm 28 and just got in to motorcycles 2 years back, started with a fun little scooter, and obviously wanted more power and am SUPER happy with my Ninja 500. It's nothing amazing, but a very easy to ride bike and is fast enough for me, having the limited experience.

be carefull with those ninja 650s and CBR's. they are VERY fast bikes and , depending on how you plan to ride, they are made for performance, not comfort.
That HD looks great , but for 10k, it's not really much faster than my 500cc bike, and i got mine for around $3k

best of luck man, mesasge me if u need some more advice

How old are you? If you're 18-24, you have to take an 8 hour class to get your class C license. Shouldn't be a big deal.

As far as bikes, ANYTHING except the XR1200. Too much money.

I'd go with the Ninja 650R if it were me. It was made specifically for beginner riders.

Might want to research the Ninja 650R a little.

First off, welcome brotha!

Second, you def don't wanna drop that much on a new bike. Search the "For Sale" forums here to find a bike, or look on craigslist. You typically wanna spend around $3K for a used bike. Just to get the hang of it. Then after a while you can upgrade.

Have fun, and post on the forums if you need any help or have any questions !

Ninja 250R or SV650 !

You"ll have plenty of time to move up and get another bike . Start slow and move up. Mistakes on a 250 are alot less painful than on a CBR or ninja.

haha i did a little at their website , now i'm even more overwelmed with models.

zx 6, 10 , 14, ninja's, ER-6n.

Obviously the 650 isn't as fast as the liter bikes, but the guy is brand new, so i'd still assume 650 cc is pretty fast for him. would be more than enough for a first bike

IMO 250 is too low, willl be sick of it within a few months. but it is a great size bike to learn on.

your right on the money with the 250 unless your weekend warrior but any real time spent on it and you will be looking for a little more zip in a few months. The 650 is kind of wierd casue you would think it's alot more powerful than the 600cc but it really isn't and the riding position is a little more comfortable than the SS riding position if your gonna go with a 650 though I would choose an SV 650 over the ninja 650

Welcome, my advice, buy something older and used so when you drop it your feelings won't be as hurt. I bought mine used but in pristine condition and thought my slower style of riding I would never drop it. 2 mph leaving a stop sign and lets just say my bike has new scratches. Would hate for a 10k bike to be your lesson. Either way, get what will make you happy and fits your riding style.

I'm 18 and I already took the 8 hour class. I just need to do the driving test and then the DPS will throw the M on with C. Still disappointing.

It sounds like the 600s are the primary selection amongst the majority of everyone. I'm leaving soon and it'll be awhile before I get back. Means prices may go down and something better may show up. When I get back though I'll be sure to check in and see if y'all think the 600s are a better decision. But most likely y'all will.

Thank you everyone for the advice and stories.

+1
You won't really care about your wrecked bike if your brain is squashed because you didn't wear a helmet.
