RIP Thread Commentary

Why do people continue to put comments about wearing gear, riding safe, etc. in RIP threads? Can we keep those threads to RIP and concerns for family and start seperate threads for gear and safety? Once the RIP thread starts leading to judgement then the focus is off the deceased and their family. BTW the family reads the RIP threads too. Is this how we want to do RIP threads?

Because, gear is there to do one thing... protect you during a accident.

If you are dumb enough to not wear gear... well....

that being said, I do feel for the family... it is not their fault the rider was a fkn .

You're right and I'm sure the family finds it offensive. Unfortunately, too many safety minded riders already know and preach the importance of gear. Every RIP thread is also a slim possibility that somenone could possibly learn from other's mistakes. When you have 200 people online throwing their opinions around after someone goes down without gear, the negative comments are inevitable.

Often enough, there are just as many people that show their condolences and offer help if needed without being judgmental.

Yea, but at that time.. it's too late.. and isn't your place to judge them.. I love wearing gear.. But just like some choose to drive like maniacs and others don't.. F- it.. do what you do and not worry about others. At this point if it's a RIP thread... well it's too late to beat a dead horse. So at that point when you should be comforting people you're looking like the tard for one, stating the obvious, and two having no concern for the loss. I agree.. A RIP thread should only be RIP's, prayers sent, etc..

Now addressing the gear issue.. because it IS an issue. If you really want to make a point of it, be proactive (vs reactive to a RIP thread). I made a suggestion before about putting together benefit rides or awareness rides. Do something about it vs just blastin people about it.

And it's not that I don't agree with you, but I do believe that one, people are always in other people's business. Two, everyone wants to shout problems w/o solutions. Three, the only person you can judge, worry about, and make change with is yourself. So pointing out other people's short coming per your standards will never change a thing...

I will be the first to just say RIP and move on.

Meanwhile, I am of the opinion that gear is a choice, and just like all choices if you choose to neglect the warnings; well, you reap what you sow. I am ATGATT, and I encourage others to do the same. Gear will save your life, and if you don't want to wear it and get hurt/die because of it. Oh well.

I don't say rip in threads - it's the Internet and feels cheap to me.

That said, idont see too many fatal accidents on here that would have been prevented by "gear."

Most of these guys were wearing a helmet, the rest would just prevent rash or maybe broken bones.

It's the rather sudden stop that kills these folks.

I dont really preach gear use in RIP threads.. the main exception being the idiot who blasted down 1960 and nailed a jeep and was wearing sunglasses shorts/tshirt/sandals.. but that is what is going through my mind when i read it..

But that is the thought. yea that guy may have had a close encounter with a pole and died because of it, but read the paraplegic biker thread.. the dude did a header into tree and still lived. granted his was paralyzed but still.

I come from a family of bikers, so the maximum protection being used is the almighty brain bucket/harley boots/jeans and a t-shirt... and they hear it from me all the time...

Not all RIP threads are because of lack of gear. Too many times it's from alcohol or running from the LEO, or insanely fast speeds. If you're going to be a dumdass, you won't get much sympathy. Death isn't taboo. It's ok to talk ill about them, especially if that person died being a jackass.
