Exclamation please help! check engine light!!!!

i just left work. turned the key, heard the fax machine sound like always while the tach went up then down, like always. then i heard the same sound three more times (not normal) that's when the light came on. i took the key out, put it back in and started the bike this time, light still on. i really had no other choice but to ride home (27mi) i'm home now and the bike drove fine but i could feel heat comming out from the back of the seat on the way home. took the seat off when i got here and couldn't see or smell anything abnormal. what should i do? I don't wanna get ahead of myself and blame eximports if this isn't their fault as it may very well be unrelated, but could this have something to do with riding 4k miles with two bolts missing from my engine?

electrictape

Or take it to a shop to have the code read. Sometimes code throw for rather benig reasons, like a vacum hose if not plugged all the way in.

since you have no idea what the problem is.... yes

you need to either get someone to your house that knows triumphs OR get it to Motorcycles Unlimited to be checked out.

well...that leaves one option. i'll have to ride it there. i just read on the triumph forum that if the bike gets caught in a rain shower it can get water on the exup valve wich could give the p1080 code, and lubing the exup valve could solve that issue. i gues i'll have to ride it (carefully) to work in the morning, read the code, and see if i can use a truck from work to get it to Motorcycles Unlimited. it just sucks i'm having regular "issues" with the most awesome machine i've ever owned

It could be a broken exbv cable as mine did the same thing. Its common. Get ready bro. Its british, period. I suggest you see decosse's thread on 675 .net for charging system upgrade with the fh008 honda or kawasaki regulator rectifier unit before you get stranded in a downpour on a highway overpass, lol. I speak from experience. Now with his modified unit I see 14 volts at 5000 rpm charging.

No. My point is that the r/r always picks the worst time to fail and leave you stranded. Rain won't hurt anything. And just wait till warranty is up. But I bet you use the warranty atleast twice, lol.

Bike(s):
lots of em

I used a regulator from a 75 chrysler, its small, thin and easy to hide and solved my charging woes.
basically any decent regulator will work, just buy one that doesnt have the price all hyped up. same for the rectifier, can build a beauty from radio shack parts for $6., again, small and easily hidden.
, lots of bikes have reg/rec combo's, snag one and wire it in.

and yes, it will probably void electrical warranty, but I dont care anyways, I repair my own stuff.

new? lol. lucas? lol. but yes i just tested my new r/r, 14.75v at idle. 14.74v at 5000 rpm. easy mod, $95 shipped and recieved in 2 days. hes just a dude so im sure times and prices will vary. well worth my hundred bucks. when my bike was new the cable to the exbv valve in the exhaust just broke. the eye at the end of the cable just came off. it made the same sounds you explained. but patrick and his guys will take care of you.
