New bikes are always pretty awesome, BUT save your money. Buy the repsol or any other used 1k until you get out of the Air Force.
Honestly my .02

So I might rev it 10-12k a few times, at least I don't redline it at every light like other people. My bike is PROPERLY broken in. I'm gonna try to be the first GSX-R I know of to go over 50,000 miles. Hope you get back on a bike soon, and get out to PP pasadena, after all, it was YOUR idea. I just hope you don't get that 1000, then I'll really have to dog my bike to keep up.

I have a buddy that was (still is??) selling a 2003 R1 for 5K-ish. VERY CLEAN silver and black!

low miles.
carbon akrokapovik pipe (full system, not a slip on)
chipped (cant remember...i think its a power commander??)
blue printed motor,
ss brake lines (cant remember by who)
aftermarket rear sets.
plus a few other mods, nothing major, that I can think of.

there is a picture of it (i think) if you click on my info/pics.. (oops, looks like I dont have it in public info. will post a pic in a few....)

(I had it as a "long term" borrowed bike for a full year... ) long story, but this bike was and IS BABIED!

pm me for more info if you like.

I can contact him if you are interested.

I'd stay away from a 1k going into the Air Force....Speaking from experience (13 years) speed limits on base is 30 mph!! That means 1st gear at an idle....If you get speeding tickets on base you will have to talk to your 1st Sgt. and they won't be happy. There is no covered parking at the dorms either. BTW, you will be in basic for a couple of months and then Tech. school so, you're looking at 3-4 months before you can even ride it. There is not telling where you may get stationed either...If you get stuck in Germany you're better off getting something there. If you get stationed in Japan, you won't want an American bike. You will have to take motorcycle classes (even if you have a class M on your license) and you will be targeted for insurance checks. Anyway, just trying to pass a little experience your way....Oh, don't volunteer for ANYTHING while your in basic...You'll see why when you get there........Take care, have fun, be careful!!! later

man you are leaving when???

Then you are going to be gone for about 4-6 months. So your bike would be sitting. I say wait and pay cash when you get out of basic/AIT school. Then you pay cash for the bike you want. Just me man. Id work and make the cash now and have it saved up and waiting for when you get outof basic and school... Just my opinion bro...

no kidding. save yourself the money that a new one costs.
i made the mistake of getting a car before the air force, and then i got injured in training and sent home. . at least i had $400/mo payments to make. yay.

spend a couple thousand on a running used bike. you might get a spot overseas and find something really cool. my brother is at kadena in okinawa and people practically pay you to get rid of their car or whatever if they deploy or have to leave for whatever.
just wait and hold onto your money for now, believe me. i know it's tough right now. if you absolutely must have a new bike. wait until you graduate tech school and get it as a present for yourself.
and let it sit at your parent's house for whenever you come home. thats what my brother's stupid STI is doing.
