Age of Consent

*taken from another forum*
I came across this article in the Texas family code and I wanted to see what you guys thought. The age of consent is the age at which a minor can legally choose to have consentual with another person. Right now the age of consent is 17 years old. Vote on this poll, and then go to this website and vote on the poll to the right. You'll be shocked at the tallies.

Probably need to factor in the demographics of the people taking the poll. I'm sure most people under 18 will vote their own age - i.e. 16 yr old will vote for 16.

I'm gonna be honest, and say that I had for the first time at a very young age. And alot of kids now days are doing the same thing. I think that 16 is an average age that should be legal. As soon as my daughter turns 15 I'm putting her on Birth Control regardless.

I say 18... you can't let a child make the decision to go have , when their parents are responisble for the outcome. like if they get pregnant.

a parent can't control what their child does all the time, especially when they have a drivers license and say they will be at one place, but go to another...

that will only happen if you lock them up and never let them go outside. I applaud the people that waited till they were 18, or waited until they were married, but now days that's just not realistic anymore. It's sad but true

you guys a pathetic picking anything under 18!! my mom had a flip when I was dating a 22yr old and i was 18. She got use to it bc we were together 3 yrs and now that we have broken up she is like about time!!! LOL But now I look back at it, I am definitly someone who learns the hard way, and if only I would have listened to my mom in the first place. anyone under the age of 20 is still a KID and has so much they need to learn in life, they don't need to get caught up in all that , as if life is stressful enough!!! Sorry if you can't tell I feel very strong about all this, but I have 2 younger siblings one of the 9 yr and the other 11 so i am very protective!!

This thread really disturbs me, but I'm going to comment anyway. I think there should be some discretion in the law for two teenagers who are too stupid to know better. I really don't think that a consenting 16 year-old is really "taken advantage" of by a consenting 18 year-old. If my receeding hairline had with a 16-y/o, I would deserve whatever I got.

When people start acting over-protective, it's usually because they don't want others doing what they have already done. :dontknow:

Mebbe..

But if they too stupid to know better at 16, they will most likely not know any better at 18 or even beyond that. Not just talking about here.

As if all this really matters with all these babys being born. Kids just aren't learning what they need to learn.
