LOUD PIPES - BAD COP | Meeting Aug 19. Join Us

Itís time to do something about our Officer problem with the Loud Pipes! You might have heard about the COP ticketing for loud pipes & thats not the real deal he is pulling over anyone on a motorcycle with aftermarket or stock pipes it doesn't matter. So the only way to do something is to change the law he is using. It's written very poorly so there is a petition to change. See enclosed petition! Link:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/houstonnoiseordinance
Also a meeting Join us and participate in the effort to get this ordinance changed, and prevent it from being used by some HPD officers to harass motorcycle riders.
KRIV Channel 26 will be at the
County Line Bar and Grill
19412 FM 1093 Rd, Richmond, TX, 77407 (281) 398-4800

You might tread very carefully with this. The law is not written well now, this allows you to usually get off with small court cost fines. If the law is rewritten to be clear it is more than likely not going to be written in our favor, and it will be a lot harder to beat those tickets. My View on this is, while it sux to get pulled over and harassed it seems most people who have gotten these tickets have got them dropped. I think it is better to get pulled over and get the ticket dropped than make the law clear and get pulled over and pay big fines also.

+1, there are cities my mom has been required to install baffles on her pipes just so she could ride through there. Houston could become one of those if you aren't careful.

well having a bartending background we used to have cops come in and shut down bands all the time for being too loud. the trick is to point out how wrong they are while being POLITE.

Sgt is usually the only one who carries a decibel meter and asking for a sgt is like asking some clerk at best buy for his manager. he has to get his supervisor for you...but you'd better be in the right

If you read it section 30-4 is knid of vague leaving it to discretion

30-5 reverts back to 30-2 and 30-2 defines the decibles.

<>
Sec. 30-4. Noisy vehicles generally.

The use of any automobile, motorcycle, or other vehicle so out of repair, so loaded, or in such a manner so as to create loud and unreasonable grating, grinding, rattling or any other loud and unreasonable sound is hereby prohibited and declared to be unlawful.

(Ord. No. 93-77, ß 2, 1-20-93)

Sec. 30-5. Amplified sound from motor vehicle.

The production or reproduction of sound from amplification equipment contained in or mounted on a motor vehicle that produces sound in excess of the limits set forth in section 30-2, when measured at or near fifteen (15) feet from the nearest external point on the vehicle, is hereby prohibited and declared to be unlawful as a sound nuisance in violation of this chapter, except as permitted by section 30-9.

If your bike's muffler w CARB or whatever imprint is getting you in trouble, fight it.

If it doesnt have those markings, Im guessing you or the previous owner put it on your bike and should take responsibility for it if it comes to be a problem.

If enough people are infact complaining, its an issue in the community. Dont complain about people on cellphones while driving if you're waking the dead in your neighborhood every morning commuting to work at 5am.

That said, mine is modified oem and I havent been introuble for it yet; but I also dont run up the rpms and drop them down looking for attention. I have stickers for that.

yup....this city ordinance is written very vaguely. Its kind of the discretion of the officer. All you can do is be polite and hope he doesnt give you a ticket, I would never question the officer because your just going to tick him off making matters worse for you, if you do get a ticket, go to court and show them proof that you passed your inspection.....if you have one....:-)

Write Governor Perry, he's a biker and a "loud pipes saves lives" guy. It's election year and he just might take up this cause in the name of personal liberty and getting re-elected.

I have aftermarket pipes, but they have silencers on them. I would rather be fast than sound fast.

Seems a bit overkill to me. When someone screws up my order at McDonald's I just get the manager to repremand the employee and hook me up with a free apple pie. I do not ask them to rewrite the whole employee handbook and retrain the entire staff.
