SV650 vs 650R

Which is better? I know some will be biased but give your opinions..

I like the sv650 because i love me some naked bikes... it is just a pain in the to find one that is 05+ with low miles (seriously only because I want the black frame... yea yea i know...)

and then there is the 650R. everyone I know that has one loves it, but for some reason I just cannot get over the way the tail looks.. but then again I can find them everywhere for a good price. but they sound good with an exhaust on it.

decisions decisions..

I'm a kawi guy, but given the choice I'd get the SV. More parts are available, plus it's a better bike out of the box.

err... get an older one though and then paint the frame black. you will save a ton of money and have just as good of a bike. the 99-02 looks better anyways

I've heard nothing but great about the performance and life of the SV. With that said, even if I AM a kawirider, I'd get SV's vote.

The money really isnt the issue.. I just want one with either low miles or some upgrades to offset the cost... like some GSXR forks...etc

I saw a few S models that were nice modded with low miles, but I want it nekkid so i had to pass them over since I am not sure on how to convert from S to N.

Have you looked at the other Kawasaki 650R platforms? The Ninja ER6n is the 650R naked bike.

While I loved my SV, I have to disagree with the "out of the box". The suspension of a stock SV is unless you're 140lbs or only want to put
around town. For spirited rides through the twisties .. uhm .. better spend
some extra money.

The good thing about the SV is indeed the fact that parts are readily available
for cheap.

There were some low mileage SVs in and around CL San Antonio and Austin.

Both good bikes, but I lean a bit more towards the SV both from an appearance aspect and aftermarket goodies.

I have no allegiance to either manufacturer nor have I ridden either bike, but if those were my only 2 choices, I would go SV based on appearance. I too would go black (biased here as I have two black bikes). Get an older one and paint it. It's not so much the tail of the Ninja that bothers me; it's the big as spring in the rear that is so painfully visible. To me, it looks cheap.

Why not a black Yamaha FZ6? If you put a rear seat cover/cowl on it, it'd be super sexy.

Be sure to check insurance coverage for both. I would think the SV has cheaper insurance.
