RIP BROTHER Johnnie Williams Station 71-C

Pic of Bike on website

SAN LEON, Texas — A motorcycle rider died Monday after after his bike was hit Sunday by a pickup that apparently ran a stop sign. The accident shut down three blocks of FM 517 near 27th Street in San Leon for several hours.

San Leon Fire officials said the 46-year-old man on the motorbike was headed east on FM 517 at about 4 p.m. when a red Ford 150 truck pulled out from 27th Street. The bike rider was unable to stop or avoid a collision, officials said.

The impact of the collision sent the motorcycle over a guardrail and into a wooden fence.

The bike rider was wearing a helmet, officials said.

The unidentified rider was taken by air ambulance to John Sealy Hospital at the University of Texas Medical Branch where he was undergoing surgery Sunday night. He was listed in critical condition.

San Leon Assistant Fire Chief Scott Lyons said the motorcycle rider is a Houston firefighter. Officials had not been able to confirm which firehouse in Houston the man worked at, Lyons said.

The man driving the truck was not injured. Officials on the scene said it appeared the truck driver ran the stop sign.

The Texas Department of Transportation is investigating the accident. The Daily News was unable to confirm if the truck driver had been cited or charged in the accident.

This may be a little psychotic, but I bet if riders were able to carry pistols when riding their bikes, cagers would be miraculously healed of their blindness to motorcycles. It is amazing to me how I can see a motorcycle on the road, and those that have never ridden one can't.

I use to have a nice Kawi KZ650 that I was driving from Dallas to Phoenix. I was 20 and in college. I was headed back to school after picking up my bike. I was cruisin down the hwy with my feet up on the cruise pegs and the throtle lock on about 75 - 80 (back then 55 was the speed limit). Well this car came up and kept toying with me. Well on my fixed fairing I had two glvoes compartments. The one on the right was a snaps only and the other was a key.. Well I kept my little .22 revolver in my right hand side. I flipped the snaps and pulled the .22, put a couple in the hood and all I heard were screeching breaks.. Needless to say after them toying with me for a LONG, nerve rackin 10 mins I never saw hide or hair of that car again....

So I agree.. but now days you'll go to jail for sneezing the wrong way.

Yeah, but guess what would happen if someone threatened your life with an SUV and you eliminated that threat. Regardless, a few highly publicized events of people that either didn't consider the consequences or didn't care would definitely reduce the number of times someone says, "I just didn't see him/her."

WOW. I'm going to go against better judgment and give you the benefit of the doubt that your telling the truth. Good for you, them, and anyone else that cries about it not being fair.
