Jacket recomendations....

I'm looking at a Joe Rocket Suzuki replica mesh.. I have one that is one size to big so my friend wears that when she rides with me ('til I can get her on her own bike.. lol). One thing I like about that jacket is the mesh.. being Hot Houston... I saw some others I like, but figured I'd be way too hot in them, but want to ride safe. How much protection are those mesh jackets. I know something is better than nothing, and I have a full, non breathing, thick riding jacket, but it'd be rediculous to wear that in anything but cold weather.

Click here to see the jacket I'm looking at.

Also like THIS ONE HERE.

But being I've always just had leathers or nothing in my older years, I'd like to think I'm wise enough to know I don't need nothing... lol

I rode about 1yr with a Joe Rocket mesh jacket and then bought an A* Leather Jacket and have worn that for a while. I never wore it when it was blazing hot outside though, but one thing was for sure is that I felt way more protected in my Leather than my mesh.

If it's really hot outside and I don't plan on riding really hard I did wear one of those Icon Field Armor vests during the summer. So Im def not a gear lol.

I too wear a joe rocket mesh. I have the red and black Honda one. I have had multiple people joke around how hot I must be and honestly when I'm moving I'm never hot. Doesn't even cross my mind. Sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in the sun is hot, but even with a t-shirt that is hot. I will say, after you sweat and you get moving, even in 90+ you may still get a slight chill. It feels great IMO. Can't say how the protection is because I have yet to check that out, but it definitely makes me feel better than nothing.

I wear a Joe Rocket Military edition. The insert protection pad are almost worthless…so I changed them out with some Dainese pads; Back, Elbow, and Shoulders.

Bevo, so commuting, i.e. going to work or whatever... So what do you wear to ride in this 100 degree+ weather?

I wear Fieldsheer mesh. Two guys close to me have the man version of the same mesh jacket and have both been down in them. They were fully protected and didn't suffer any rash/injuries by a breakdown of the jacket.

I wear my mesh all summer, and I have a leather that I wear in the winter, or as soon as the temperature drops a bit.

Heads up on Fieldsheer. About a year ago they changed distributors and manufacturing.
I have been less than impressed with the new gear. It's a shame too, as I have always liked their product previously.

When I'm not commuting, I rock one piece leathers, like I did at GSS on 7/24 and on the roads Saturday

.
same story here, i had a JR mesh jacket for years, finally this winter i bought a nice A* leather jacket.
def makes you feel like you are a lot more protected from the street, and as far as riding in the cold it stops all the wind. i think the one i got was the SP-5..idno, it was on sale got it for like 300 bux.
make sure it fits right tho man, its not going to help you much if you fall and its too big and it rides up and exposes your fleshyness.

check them out. they have some great deals on the textile jackets. I had the same jacket as the 1st one you posted the suzuki jacket. Not a bad jacket... I have a JR textile and replace the elbow, back pads out....

I tested the durability of a Joe Rocket mesh on asphalt at 50mph. Tore the jacket to but it protected me well. No burn through. If your going any faster than that when you fall, you'd probably want leather. My leather jacket is perforated, and the wind goes straight through it when I am moving. It was expensive though.

Honetsly ...I have a bud that went down 2 years ago on hwy 225 going home after a night shift from the plant. He was cruising at about 75-80. He had a textile jacket on (not sure of brand) it did quiet well in protecting him. He did have some rash on his hip area from the jacket riding up a lil bit but all in all. I gave that jacket props.

Well that's why I don't want to wear the large.. hoping a better fit will help more in the long run.. just like wearing the right size helmet.. ya know.
