Exclamation Kawi ATV engine problem?

I have a 2004 Kawasaki Prairie 360 4x4. Just bought it off craigslist for $150. I brought it home, put a battery in it, and tried to turn the motor... it turned about half way and made a clank noise. I turned the manual crank pulley (by hand) both ways and it'll turn 180 degrees but comes to a dead stop. I'm thinking the motor is fukced... but maybe it could be something else??? Any advise? I pulled the stator off and attempted to remove the magnet looking pulley, but I think I'm going to need a special tool to get it off. I think I bought myself a bad deal. PS, where do I look to find the VIN on it, I looked everywhere and can't find it.

Ben

VIN should be on the frame near the front end, probably near the steering shaft somewhere. Might as well go ahead and pull the motor and start tearing it down. sounds like the timing jumped or your valve train is toast. . .buyer beware!!

Dude. It might be an easy fix. Then he got a stellar deal. Its 150 so whatever he is looking to do with it he still comes out good.

Well I'm going to use parts off another Prairie I bought a while back on this one... now I have 2 non-running Prairies. I'm going to start the tear down this weekend. I'll ask more questions as I find dead ends... btw, I finally located the VIN, THANKS!

Make sure the cylinder is not full of gas or water. Pull the plug and then spin it over. worth a shot.
