speed certainly does contribute ... but they way I see it, riding/driving faster than your skill level or the faster than the environment allows is not being "smart" ...

In the end, I was just thinking how my wife and daughter would take it ... can happen on the bike, in the car or just walking in the parkinglot ... be safe ... be smart.

Completely agree. Your speed should be determined by your skill level and environment. A busy street like 1960 or highway 6 may not be safe at 50 mph which is the limit on parts of it but an open highway such as I-10 when there is no traffic 60mph is far too slow for most people.
