Bike mechanic to go with me??

So I sort of found this bike but I don't know enough about motorcycles to figure out if there's anything wrong with it. The shop said my mechanic can come look at it but they won't let me take it to another shop. I don't blame them though because once it's out of their shop who knows what can happen to their bike.

Is there any kind of service where a bike mechanic can go with you to check out a bike? If there is, how much does something like that cost? I know Motorcycles Unlimited does free inspections but you have to take the bike to them.

Thanks for any and all replies.

If the bike is in good shape they shouldn't have a problem giving you a one week warranty. Buy the bike. Get the warranty in writing. Take it to Motorcycles Unlimited. If Motorcycles Unlimited finds something wrong with the bike then take it back.

Heck, I'd be happy if they gave me a 72 hour warranty! Too much of a risk on their side though, they'll just say I red-lined the bike, burned the tires, etc.

Most bikes have a rev limiter. They can measure the tread depth before you leave their shop. You can get a warranty on some used cars, there's no reason they can't give you one on the bike, unless it's already a POS

Yeah, you're right. If the shop really wants to sell it they can give me 1 or 2 days to get it looked over by my own mechanic and return it as if the deal never happened. If I get over there I'm going to run this past them and have them put it in writing!

I think it depends if they put the official "As Is, No Warranty" label on it... seen that on most of the podunk corner used car lots.

Yeah, I was under the same impression that used cars/bikes are sold "as-is" unless there is a written warranty provided by stealer or shop.
