RIP to the fallen officer/rider. I pray that the family and friends of the fallen will find strength, comfort, and peace during these troubling times........Amen.

I also pray that the person involved doesn't slip through the cracks and gets out of this. I have no pity for someone that is drunk and kills another.

This is very sad and disturbing. May his family find peace and may the drunk MINOR find a cold block cell.

Chron is reporting the driver was under age...

Quote:
A Harris County sheriff’s detention officer heading home from an overnight shift at the county jail was killed Saturday morning by a suspected underage drunken driver.

Detention officer Gregory Hundl, 25, was stopped on his motorcycle when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old woman around 6:30 a.m., according to a Sheriff’s Office news release and Alan Bernstein, a spokesman for Sheriff Adrian Garcia.

Hundl was at a red light on the U.S. 59 service road near Aldine Bender when a speeding vehicle struck his motorcycle from behind. He was thrown 80 to 100 feet, the release said.

An ambulance took the detention officer to LBJ General Hospital, where he died.

The DUI suspect — Michele Renee Arnold — also was taken to the hospital for a mandatory blood test then transported to a sheriff’s substation where “a breathalyzer test determined she had a blood alcohol content of .147,” the release said.

That’s nearly twice the .08 legal limit in Texas for those old enough to lawfully consume alcohol.

She was being booked at the Harris County Jail on an intoxication manslaughter charge.

Hundl had been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2008 and worked at 701 San Jacinto as a jailer. He was an active member of the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department.

The crash happened on the same day the county begins its most intensive effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related traffic fatalities.

Under Operation Shared Responsibility, unveiled by Garcia on Thursday, patrol officers will focus solely on DWI or alcohol-related offenses in specific, unannounced areas during the next eight weeks by apprehending suspected intoxicated motorists.

The multiagency program also offers safe rides home and promotes designated drivers.

"No matter what the timing, this is a sad day for the Harris County Sheriff's Office and a tragic day for our entire community. But it's even more tragic considering that just a few days ago, law enforcement agencies and private industry joined me in announcing a new initiative against drunken driving, in which we ask the public to join with us in reducing this deadly scourge that unfortunately has made Harris County notorious," Garcia said Saturday. "In the memory of Detention Officer Gregory Hundl, I urge everyone to prevent intoxicated individuals from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle."

I saw something on the news but the weather was crappy and I lost signal. There was a white equinox with a trashed front end and the reporter said driver was intoxicated. I didn't hear anything else about the accident since the signal went out again. I am assuming it is the same accident.

Rip to the rider. Such a sad story.

saw this on the night news. You can see the bike's rear rim was bent on impact. This is just so pointless. If anyone ever needs a ride home after drinking, give me a call.

Reason for my anger is that this kinda can happen to anyone of our riders at anytime. No matter how Godly fast you are in the straights or corners, a strike u from behind at a light = deaths.
Drunk probably coming from the "After Hours" or house party. At least they didn't let her go like the that killed those 3 girls then fled to Nepal. HPD is an embarrassment. They F--k with riders, but release drunken foreign nationals after killing people. Go figure.

RIP to the fallen jailer.
