Muffler laws in tx

As far I can find there's no laws against not having a muffler on a bike and no decibal max rating I might be looking in the wrong place.

Per the inspection people, they are required to see if there is some type of muffler on the bike. This was at a Mr. Sticker. As for the DB rating, I dunno.

the max decibel rating might not be specific to the muffler. it might be a general noise ordinance. there was a hugeeeee thread about it awhile back with that holsterclaw cop.

yeah I've wondered that DB thing myself. I mean manufactures have a restriction level they can't go over so there is some law in place just maybe not in Texas. Of course it's not like I haven't heard plenty Harley's go by rattling my teeth when they pass. just watch for cops without your exhaust. Like don't be bliping the throttle around them to draw attention to yourself.

Its city laws and not a state law I think. I believe they are ordinances and vary from city to city.

(e) No person or vehicle shall emit excessive or unusual noise on the highways or streets and no vehicle shall be equipped with a noisemaker other than the required horn.

Sometimes it may be best to let sleeping dogs lie.

Here is what I found for Houston and Elpaso
and other states CT is a lot strictor,

see section 30-4
http://www.nonoise.org/lawlib/cities/houston.htm

see section 9.40.110

I am not sure if this is applicable but according to the manual for my bike "some people may feel molested by loud noises" Maybe because they might molest their ears with their fingers in the event of a loud noise.
