typically the yen has been slightly more than the dollar, but the cost of living in Japan is sky high. Most business pay for many items, because of huge taxation there. So many high end businesses pay most (or all) for your living quarters, car, and many other things. But not everywhere! Tokyo is a good example of this. tiny cramped living quarters, working for "the man", who provides for you. Of course, rural, and farm life is quite a bit different.

Imagine living in the military. But instead its a company. You dont get paid a lot, but, many other things are provided for, so within reason, it's not too hard to save. just being patient.
