Or get an HJC Fs-15 from ebay, the cheaper one go for about 120 shipped and they are excellent helmets, quality and comfort wise.

i got one! they run for about $100.00, that was my first helmet. they are pretty for the price you pay for, the inside pads are solid and last for a while. then just order some new ones for like $35.00
so......you can save and get a really bad helmet for about $399.99 to $600.00 or if you need a helmet then this ones are good to START with.
somethings are BETTER then NOTHING.

note: some kids say that gear is too expensive to buy and that's why they ride with no gear when they get a new bike.
i say..... get what you can afford.
just my .2..........

You can say what you want RacerX, but results are results. Spending tons of money on an expensive helmet does NOT guarantee you safety and spending little money on a helmet does not guarantee you injuries. Do the research (like you're doing) and get what you can afford. A lot of guys are helmet snobs.
Really?

Example: Today i ran over my 1st helmet cheap $80 vega i bought 5 years ago guess what cracked and shattered... ill take it out the trash can and take pics if you want...

A friend of mine ran over his old arai he didnt want anymore and nothing happened to that helmet just got more scratched.. Wish i had a vid to prove it.

So what does what mean?

I WIN!!!! and your full of

well....SIR!
first off.....i have a joe rocket full carbon fiber as a helmet.
then a full racing leather jacket that cost $800+ at cycle gear
i have spend 1000's of dollars on gear and thats because now i can afford it.
but before when i first started riding....a $80.00 helmet was better then eating with nothing on.
the better you get at riding and care for your self the more you will spend on buying the good . better gear and better jackets ect.......but at the end really somethings are BETTER than nothing.

Why the debate? Because if a helmet is too stiff it can be less able to prevent brain injury in the kinds of crashes you're most likely to have. And if it's too soft, it might not protect you in a violent, high-energy crash. What's just right? Well, that's why it's called a debate. If you knew what your head was going to hit and how hard, you could choose the perfect helmet for that crash. But crashes are accidents. So you have to guess.

oh.....by the way.. i forgot to answer your question......my head right now cost 499.95 on sale for 299.95

I wear a Shoei, because that is what fit my head shape best, and felt the most comfortable to me. I tried on an Arai, and it didn't feel as good to me, so I didn't feel the need to spend more money for it.

I would have to say that a $200 helmet would probably protect your head just as well as a $600-700 helmet in most scenarios.

Do your research online bro, unfortunately most people think $$$=safety. In today's world that's not always true. I had a Spark Griffin and loved it, light, quiet, and it's DOT & ECE approved. ECE has stricter standards than Snell. My only complaint was the smoked shield was just a tad hazy when the sun hit it a certain way. Also in comparison to my X-11 it did not vent as well which is not saying much because the X-11 is one of the best venting helmets on the market (at that time).

Here is a weight comparison from webbikeworld.com:
