How many of you non-lane splitters have never been at a red light, needing to make a right, 2nd in line, and just went by to make the turn?

That's lane splitting too.

I've lane split in Houston on several occasions. Seems like every time I go down there, traffic is backed up. I have done it right by cops b4, and they didn't do anything. One time, on 1960 on st patties day weekend, I even pulled up next to an SUV cop wit his window down and asked him if I could split through because I was getting REALLY hot in all my leather. How exactly do you get stopped by a cop in heavy traffic anyways? I spose if there is a shoulder for them.

I tend to shy away from splitting next to an 18 wheeler unless there is more than adequate room to zip by. Ill ride within 6 inches of the white line and pass on the interstate at low speeds all day long. Im never in such a rush that Id risk getting squashed

How does the Cali l/s law work? is it limited to speeds of 20 mph and under ? that would make sense and seems logical.

in all honestly, like some ppl have said, even it was legal, i'm not sure how often i'd do it. u all know how bad some drivers are . Random lane changing, texting, reading newspapers.

Too many drivers are space cadets when they are driving. not worth it for me. But it SHOULD be legal. risk vs. reward for ppl willing to risk it

The Cali law is way looser than the one proposed here

Its not hard to split lanes and stay alive, the people crashing arent using common sense, they're trying to get ahead of everything way too quick. if you are going to, then never do it over 20mph thats already pushing it, stay in the void between cars in front and behind you and pass them when they dont have a lane to change into, dont do it on the shoulder side and watch for cars straying around their lane or big trucks that can cut off your lines.

the only reason you should be splitting is if traffic is stopping completely, if it starts to speed up then you shouldnt be splitting.

and how do you get a ticket for that anyway? does the cop get out and run you down or what? really?

I have no prob splitting an 18 wheeler when in bumper to bumper

Splitting "at speed" besides being stupid is also not legal in CA

Dude in the video would have been toast if they were rolling at a decent speed. Exactly my point.

Well I am all for having it here. It would just take a nice ad campaign to let other drivers know it is legal and if they do anything like cut us off.. they will go to in the prison

wouldn't that be assault with a deadly weapon (the car?)

But then again I have my CHL.... hmmmmm...

That's the general idea and why it should be legal. The people that do it a 60 when in dead stop traffic are retards and there gonna do it wether or not it's legal
