Man on stolen motorcycle in police chase has died

Share Del.icio.usDiggTwitterYahoo! BuzzFacebookStumbleUponEmail Close [X]A man who was injured Wednesday night when he crashed a reportedly stolen motorcycle while leading police on a high-speed chase in southwest Houston died at the hospital this morning.

The crash occurred in the 4300 block of Gessner about 8 p.m. after patrol officers tried to stop a speeding motorcyclist who then slammed into a light pole, police said.

Police said the 25-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he later died.

The Suzuki motorcycle was reportedly stolen from Indiana.

Police said officers attempted to stop the motorcyclist for speeding on S. Gessner, but the man sped away. Police followed him, and he reached speeds of about 100 mph in a 35 mph speed zone during the chase.

The man apparently lost control of the motorcycle and slammed into a light pole near Clay Road.

Related thread.

While I have no sympathy for thieves of any sort it's sad that someone elses family is now suffering because of a stupid, selfish, impulsive (perhaps), or maybe even naieve decision. I've lost count but what is this like the 10th or 15th death this season already?

Stolen from Indiana? I doubt this guy that died was the one who stole it. Could have been a noob that bought a bike with a Bill of Sale and no title. The guy selling the bike claimed he would have a title next month and the buyer ends up getting screwed.

True, the moral of the story? Don't run from the cops period.
