Road Atlanta Sept. 29 - Oct 4 PLMS

I'm thinkin about trailering out to Atlanta in late September to go visit a friend. While I'm out there, I plan to go hit Deal's Gap, and possibly attend the Petite Le Mans races at Road Atlanta. Would anybody be interested in going? I may have 2 open slots on my trailer. I'm just toyin with the racetrack idea right now, but I'm def gonna try doing Deal's Gap. Anybody up for a convoy?

man I'd love to go, I grew up in atlanta, haven't been back in a year. I was considering trekking out there, but trailering would be nice. Last time I did it on the shadow, straight shot. Bout 15 hours with a few breaks here and there. Rough ride though.

I'm not entirely sure yet, but 4 or 5 days seems like a good round number. 2 days of travel and 2 or 3 days of riding, relaxing, and spectating. If you need to know a schedule by a specific time, let me know and I'll try to get it worked out sooner.

that sounds tempting. I miss riding there. I think I'd kill for a couple days hitting RB Russel, 129, 60, Cherohala Skyway, 129 etc. And capping it off with a burger and a cold one at the L5P Vortex. Too tempting.

Yupyup! Those are on the agenda! I'm getting most of it worked out, slowly. It's hard to tell while I'm still overseas. But, once I get back and in the swing of things it'll be easier and way faster to plan out. I'll be taking my friend Jeff along for the ride. He's gonna be renting a Vette once we get to GA to take on the twisties. He doesn't ride or he would take one of my bikes. So far I am allowed a 3 rail trailer from my father, and a spacious tow rig is in the works. Anybody wantin to convoy out with their race trailer is more than welcome to come along. I was thinkin about campin out in N GA for the first bit of the trip to ride Deal's Gap. Then migrate south for race weekend at Road Atlanta. Share your interests or suggestions here and I'll get a roster going once I get home to see who wants to make it out there.

Here's a link to the PLMS ticketing prices.

Also, for Triumphant, I've been thinking of leaving Houston on the 29th to drive alllll day to GA and arrive that night. The 30th, Thursday, and Oct. 1st, Friday, we could ride twisties up north. Then come south on Saturday, Oct. 2nd, to watch the races and hang out in Atlanta or whateva. Sunday, Oct 3rd, watch more races, and the finals, then head home either that night, or save energy and head out early morning Monday, Oct. 4th. So, for those wanting to ask for time off the whole trip would be from Sept. 29th to Oct. 4th. That would make Sept 28th your final day to pack and prep, and Oct. 5th might be a day to recover from all the driving. It'll easily take up a whole day of driving. With stops for gas and meals, it could be a 15 hour drive from Houston to Atlanta. From Atlanta, it's maybe an hour's drive to the twisties and Deal's Gap, American MotoMecca.

Yea, I'm real excited. I won't be able to finalize these plans until I'm home for about a week and able to talk to more people about things I gotta handle but this is what I'm going for. I'd say it's looking at about 80% probability. It's just a matter of me getting to coordinate schedules with my friend in GA and such.

I've never ridden this part of the country,so to have some experienceed people come along and lead a few passes would be real nice, so I don't get any surprises. I have maps and routes I'll be studying for a while to try and get the hang of it but maps will only do so much. Before I went to Germany, I raced the Neurburging on Gran Turismo 4 over 150 laps for months and I had it down pat. When I actually got to the 'Ring I was able to pass people in corners in my rental BMW. I have excellent memory when it comes to tracks and roads. Math and History? Not so much. Hah! Anyways. It'd be cool to have some seasoned Dragon Riders to go with for some good tips and such. Stay tuned!

Update!

I'm having to ditch some school classes to do this but I can afford a couple absences. I have a few of my shifts covered at work, but I'm still trying to get the whole week taken care of. I'll keep yall posted on that. As for trailers and hauling space - I'll be taking my '84 Chevy van as a people mover, and sleeper. I'm going to Dallas to pick up my father's 3 rail trailer, one rail will be for my SV. If yall get confirmation from work that you can come, then by all means, let me know, and I'll reserve a rail for you, otherwise you might have to bring a chase truck, or another trailer. I'd be interested in splitting gas costs if my van is the only vehicle, but it won't be too bad. The motor runs cherry and gets more mpg than a newer Expedition. I know that's not saying much, but it's fair enough. If you bring your own vehicle then expect to pay for your own gas. I'm budgeting $600 for this trip to include fuel there and back, cost of hotels if needed, and emergency funds like roadside repairs or tickets - forbid. I think I'll come out spending much less than $600, but it'll be nice to have the extra room to move with.

More updates soon! I'll post routes within a week when I can get some spare time to work on them.

P/S/ It's possible to fit 2 extra sportbikes into the van if needed but it cuts a LOT of room out for passengers. The only reason I could see doing this is if somebody brings a small sedan for extra people, and we use the van as a bike hauler to bring 5 bikes total - 3 on trailer, 2 in van.

Update:

I have all my shifts covered, and I'm set to pick up my SV and trailer from Dallas next Tuesday. Nobody has reserved any of the extra rails on my trailer, or space in the van so if you want to go with me for a 5 day trip to GA, and hit Deals Gap and Road Atlanta, let me know via PM, email, or cell txt. ate tree too - ate tree oh - too fife fife won
