So who around town installs patches from the inside? I am not tossing out a brand new PP with a little over 100 miles on it for a small brad nail hole.

Houston is a big city, what part of it are you located? On the Border motorcycles does patch plugs, which is supposed to be the best if you decide to plug it instead of get a new one. They are located in Pasadena. I don't know if they can do it on the side though...
