get a 250, learn to ride it and work up.

Its more fun to ride a smaller bike, get longer tire life/gas mileage/cheaper parts and really learn to ride then getting passed by a 250 on a heavier/slightly faster/slower cornering bike you'll pay more for, end up crashing, be back in the same boat.
