I have sold bikes posted on ebay and craigslist. Weird thing is all three bikes had their action and sold due to the craigslist ads...not ebay.

I bought my 919 on Ebay, but only searched for local auctions so I could check the bikes out in person before going back to bid.

Sold an XR70 and my old zr7 on eBay. Got what i wanted for both of them, buyers came and picked up the bikes a few days after the auction. The whole process went smooth both times.

I will definetly be doing this next time.
If I can't see it, I aint buying it.

Not only to check the bike, but to make sure all the paperwork gets done.

I sold a VFR400R and my Ducati 944 SS/SP on eBay. No major problems, although I did have the VFR sell initially and then the buyer flaked, so I had to relist it.

I recently bought a motard off of eBay. It worked out really well.

Pros: Lots of exposure and easy to put together a good ad. Very good solution if you have a unique bike targeted to a certain audience.

Cons: Not real cheap, but not too expensive. Can be a little nerve racking with the xchange of funds for bike. You must communicate a lot and clearly to put everyone at ease.

Both transactions were pretty straigthforward. Lots of documentation on both ends so each party was comfortable with the exchange of funds and bike, The VFR was shipped to LA, I delivered the Duc to San Antonio for shipment to Michigan (or some other northern state that escapes me now).

If I am selling a "normal" bike, I have had the best luck with local boards and CL. And they are free.

LMK how it goes, I might go that route if I don't sell on CL or local boards.

I've only purchased through ebay.

We finished the transaction in person though; and I got the VIN number to run before the auction was over through messages from the seller.
