photographer..looking to get bikes in portfolio

hey guys, I'm starting a freelance business and I'd love to get into shooting bikes, from stunts to garage photos, even racing. A lot of people on here have beautiful bikes. I'm building a portfolio right now, I live in pasadena so PM me if you'd like to get some shots, right now I'm not so much looking for money, maybe a few bucks for gas if your on the northside or something lol but check out ultimateautocorp.com
those are just warehouse photos for online listings I can do much more exciting photos haha

That's a pretty overpopulated and also saturated market by Onkel Bob's Superduperphotobidness .. good luck on that one.

So, I don't know you, Mr. Six posts, but what you're saying is let me invite you to my house to let you into my garage and ogle my motorcycles while you take pictures of my bikes and garage...

What an absolutely wonderful, super duper, astonishingly great idea.

Or not. Sorry. Good luck with your business, but I think meeting in public is a lot safer - especially with all the bikes that have been stolen from members here.

Though...I must agree

Talk to the people like Godsuki that run track days and take pics out there at the track. That's a really good way to get yer name out there. If you suck, we'll let you know.

I'm not trying to go into someones garage either without knowing them, I don't exactly want my cameras stolen, or my bike for that matter. And my baaad on six posts I just found this forum, I've always ridden by myself, I was simply looking for a chance to ride with other people and take some photos while I'm at it.

Don't take much threat about what Squoddy said. You'll come to find she's pretty easy to get along with. She was just stating that as "the new guy in town" don't expect many people willing to invite you over into their garage etc to take pics (take a look at the stolen bike threads).

If you want to go on a ride and snap pics then do it to yer hearts content. Like I said; maybe trying to take pics at a track day would be a good way to get yer name out there.

You can ALWAYS join rides and take photos - we all do it. Just awkward for you to advertise that you'll go to their house. What if they're pedobears? You just never know.

JK - All in good fun. Go to M&G's and meet ppl there and take pics in the parking lot. Rides are always nice - everybody likes to see pics of them riding their bike.

Maybe also something to consider would be to show what you have done before. You mention that you're going to start a business so I take it you've been shooting for some time? What have you done before? Show people that you actually know which direction to hold a camera and what buttons to push when. At the end of the day people will have to spend time with you not knowing what they'll get. That website you're linking to does not really show anything exciting. You say you can do better, well show us the better.

I've been doing this for some time now on a professional level meaning as a full time job not something sometimes on the weekend when I feel like it. Feel free to check out my website and even more important blog where I also share some insights. You can drop me a line with questions on the business side if you want, more than happy to help. That's the tough part. Anybody can take a snapshot, not everybody can make a great photograph.

Edit: Forgot to mention re. shooting at the track, everybody can shoot from the spectators stands and sidelines. The problem is getting access to the infield as those
spots are usually taken by the "official" track photographers either the track or the org works with. But it's a good start.
