Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona trip. Wanna come?

So. I've been thinking about it for awhile and was thinking of riding up there. But because it's so blazing hot already I'm throwing the bike in the back of the truck. The ride from here to out past Amarillo is long and boring. Plus I'm taking both my kids so they can visit.

My nephew lives in Red Mesa Colorado and I'm using his place as my base of operations. He has a guest house and a bunk house on the mesa. There's a lot of good riding in that area and I already have some route ideas. I will post some maps in the next few days. One route that I would like to do for sure involves two 11,000ft+ passes. I have never been to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I want to see that new "U" shaped overhang that's 1,000ft above the canyon floor. I would like to do Monument Valley up to Moab and maybe some roads west of there.

I'm going to put in for vacation from July 17th to August 1st. I don't know if I will get it yet, although I don't see a problem with it. So if you are interested post up or PM me for more details. You can always come later and leave earlier or whatever you need to do.

Great areas to ride, did Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Capital Reef, Moab in a week. Some of the best country and scenery to ride in, only one problem so many areas to ride and not enough time. Checkout Advrider, guy on there did essentially the same route with great pics-I think someone posted a link on here awhile back. Best route was from Bryce to Moab on the Devils Backbone-you ride a few twisties and come over a hill, nothing but two lanes and 3000 ft dropoffs both sides!

School can wait. Come on!

To arouse interest there's no lodging cost by staying at my nephews. We would just need money for groceries. If we decided to do an overnight trip somewhere maybe we could stay in a hotel or something. Personally I would like to camp out in one of the many parks if we do an overnight trip. Tents and sleeping bags are encouraged.

I'm also bringing all the tools for servicing. I'm even going to bring the No Mar tire changer and plenty of proper tire patches. I know where all the motorcycle shops are in the area in case anyone needs a new tire or stuff like that.

There's never enough time. I definitely need to check out ADVRider. I was thinking going all the way over to Bryce Canyon and doing that route. I think that's about as far west as I'm planning to go given the time constraints. I was thinking of going over to Vegas, but it's too hot already and would suck up 2 or 3 days by itself. Need to stay in the higher elevations where it's cooler. Thanks for the advice.

Got a trip planned already for that time period, going to Alaska. If the timing changes I might be able to join you.

I'm going to get up to Alaska one of these years. I'd love to ride the Alcan highway. Sounds like a good trip. If you change your mind let me know.

I won't be going as far south as Yuma. Too hot this time of year.

The trip is still on if anyone wants to go.

Pics are always welcome. I can't wait to hit those roads. I've been on a lot of them in a car. I love the southwest. I lived in the Farmington, NM area on and off for 15 years. I would be out there now if it were not for the job here. Hopefully I can retire out there some day.

I lived in Casper, WY for 6 yrs. Grand Junction, CO. for 2, Pagosa Springs for 2, and Farmington for 2-1/2. I love to go back and visit the mountains. The riding is fantastic but I hate the winters and the Reservations.
