Mini test ride: 2006 Yamaha FJR1300

Well I was helping my brother law move some stuff to their new house afterwards we went to his dads house (VMAX Don on the old board) to drop off the suburban. I noticed his dad got a new Yammy, so I check it out and man that thing was pretty big but sure looked comfy and sharp.

He then came outside and saw me looking at it and was like here take it for a ride. I was like errr ok. So I thought to myself man this bike looks kinda big I hope I dont have any trouble.

So as I turn the key to the on position, I notice the awesome display of guages there for my viewing.

This thing tells you the air temprature, gas guage, average gas mileage, miles till ur empty, engine temp, and tripometer and it even tells you what gear you are in. There is probably more stuff but thats what caught my attention right away.

So anyways I start the bike and immediately feel the growl of 1300cc beneathe me and man was it nice. I then noticed this switch for an automatic winshield adjuster. Thats right... lol... you could adjust the height of the windshield just like a car window. Look at the pics... one is all the way up for less wind resistence in your face... and one is all the way down to let the wind flow through.

So anyways.. time to get the show on the road..

So I pop it into first and start heading down the road. Mind you I was in the neighborhood and taking it slow at first. But just the first 30 seconds of being on that thing it felt so nimble and light. I was taking turns from a stop and that thing just leaned over like it was nobody's business. It was amazing. So I take it out on the main roads and it just felt wonderful. It got up to speed really quick and without much throttle. I then gave it some throttle and you could easily tell the torque was right there when you needed it. I was taking curves at a decent speed and you could feel it hug the ground and the feedback was enough to give you confidence that you could just push it harder and harder. Oh and the ride was like riding on clouds. The bike swallowed every bump and spit it right back out. I was tempted to get on the freeway but seeing that I was on the bike a little longer than expected, I quickly busted a U and headed back to Dons house.

I must say that this Yamaha may not draw the attention of the younger crowd but once you get on one of these types of bikes, you know that it could be something you would enjoy taking on some scenic trips.

This bike is definitely Los approved and receives 2 thumbs up.
