Done with motorcycling forever

This Monday I went into the hospital with some difficulty breathing and 3 hours later was in ICU. Now this isn't my first time so I was actually expecting it but the fact is this was my 3rd time to get blood clots and I knew what to expect. Because of this my Dr. will have me on blood thinners for the rest of my life and I can't justify riding the bike when even a minor incident could easily cause me to get life threatening injuries.

Its been a blast riding with the forest gnomes and glad we made the friends we did. I look forward to seeing you guys around but unfortunately I'll have to cage it.

FYI if you think youll be in the hospital for any length of time make sure you bring your laptop and an internet card so you can keep up on all the gossip. Makes the days go much faster.

WOW that sucks!! But you are doing the right thing taking care of yourself and the ones that love you. I bet it's a painfull but easy decision to make.

If you ride long enough...... there will be blood.

Best of luck

I had a good time putting 17k miles in about 18months of motorcycle ownership. It was all back roads riding also.

At this point I'm on Heperin and getting started on Coumadin again. I was lucky again. I actually had clots spread all over my lungs and never got really bad. My last one came really close to killing me.

I did just get back from Fiji and I know what I was doing there to cause the clots.

Any time your sitting still for long periods of time your at a higher risk of getting clots. For the flights I was medicated but while I was there I went on a long Kayaking trip and was crammed into a sit in kayak for a lot longer then I should have been. My legs were restricted to about 2 inches of movement in my feet and later that day I felt like I had pulled a muscle in my calf. 2 weeks later I'm in ICU

don't take this the wrong way but honestly If I was your age and had the restraint to not ride hard I would stay on the bike. As is I just got married a month ago and plan on staying off 2 wheels as long as the marriage is still going good. (no one tell her I said that lol)

Aww man; what causes you to be prone to have blood clots? A blood clot in the lung (pulmonary artery) and it could be instant death... Stay on your meds as prescribed and please have your blood work checked per the Dr's orders.

I have a blood clotting disorder that I've known about for the past 5 years or so. 2 of the 3 times Ive had clots they have made it to my lung this time wasn't bad but the first time was. I know all about the blood work and I'll probably just get the machine and test myself since I will be on this permanently. That will save me lots of time getting my labs done.
