I could maybe see this holding up in court for wheelies and other speed limit stunts. but it aint gonna do s#it about a pack of bikes passing a slow bitc# driver. If people would just continue to drive their cage just as they were before they saw or heard the bikes not speed up, slow down, or panic uncontrolably they are in no fuc*ing danger. just let um pass and keep going. but it seems that when a driver isnt paying attention to what they are doing they freak out and then get at all the horrible motorcycles that seem to know exactly where they are and where they intend to go. WHOS the problem?

They can say what they want, take all the video they want to take... The fact of the matter is all those peeps on youtube doing stunts are only on video because they wanted to be recorded.. At the end of the day the person doing stunts on the freeway isn't gonna be doing the speed limit anyways so in order for the driver to record, they would have to be breaking the law themselves. I just don't see a cellphone video holding up in court as legitimate evidence against a rider... Now needless to say, I just plain flat out don't have the to do stunts like that, nor do I ever plan to.. The risk is just too much for me to take...

If I am doing a wheelie I would be very impressed if you got my plate number.

Once you give people the deemed authority to tape you driving and endanger you, they will abuse that power.

Neither do I like ANYONE taking pictures or video of me.
I have a few non-intrusive ideas on how to wage the electronic warfare back at them.

So they are recommending drivers to video tape while driving, sounds safe.

Well, they specifically say they encourage passengers and not drivers, but let's be real, as soon as you start giving people the idea that they should be recording this stuff and it's wanted, drivers are going to start as well.

Would be funny, someone using their cell phone to take pictures of the riders, and gets into an accident.
Cell phone's wont be getting LP close ups due to their grainy quality so it seems an attempt would be more danger than good. Even if they did, the picture would not hold up in court, it is just to make the old geezers happy that some City official had something productive to say.
On on that note, my girlfriend is a Houston Police Officer, and after I finish the Academy this fall I will be joining the force as well. Does this mean I will stop riding fast (and a tad bit crazy) nope! And if it did, I'd by the cities biggest hypocrite. My girlfriend drives like a maniac constantly just as she did before she joined the department, however she only puts herself at risk and noone else to say the least. So my advice to anyone is to respect the police if they are on your tail, and in return they won't begin punishing all riders in the long run. Try doing what NightRider and his friends do to the Euro-policia and it's bound to catch up one way or another.
A LOT of police ride bikes, so keep that in mind, and though most ride crusers, there's still the respect. The ones riders would consider their enemies would be senior citizens who attend monthly town hall meetings, Police Chiefs, district officials, and the media. With all that being said, Happy Riding!

Let's get some more GoPro's and start policing Houston. We tape them texting, tape their plate, and send it in.

It would have to be a non-moving violation like the red light cameras since they have no idea who is riding the bike. Seems like a lot of work at a high cost to the city to charge someone with a non-moving violation with a small fine as a reward.

dont kid yourself, if they have proof, in this day and age, they WILL use it and make sure everybody hears about it, hoping it curtails such actions. They will use it and it will stick because its a show of force.
Again, I ride daily and don't have squat to worry about.

Like others I'm against stunting on the highway but really?
They were "lucky to escape the motorcycle onslaught without crashing", please that's just inflamatory language trying to make their pu**y seem less lame.

so either ride the wheelie long enough that they can't get the plate or go fast enough that they don't have time to get the camera out

I found it funny at the end of the article
