What to look for when buying used

Hey All,

I'm going to check out an 06 Ninja with 7900 miles tomorrow.

The pics show a nice bike with a few scratches and the guy says it runs great. They want 2k.

I have no bike knowledge! What should I be looking for when I go check it out? Does that seem like a reasonable price for the age and mileage? What would be a red flag in this deal?

Thanks!!

Registration, vin ran etc to make sure its not stolen...

Otherwise take someone that knows bikes. Start it cold, run it hot.

Or, best option, agree to meet at Motorcycles Unlimited(a sponsor here) for a free bike purchase evalutation. They do amazing work

Take it to Motorcycles Unlimited if possible, if not, here's a "little" information for you:

I'm assuming you mean an '06 Ninja 250.
NADA BlueBook is $2999, if they are only asking $2K that could be a red flag. When you are looking at it ask yourself, would I sell this bike for $1000 below bluebook?
Also, verify title status, it is not uncommon for people to never transfer the title to their name to avoid paying the tax. If they haven't it can be a pain to get it straightened out.
Clear title = good.
