yeah, with 30 something bikes in the field, all with the same engine....rider ability plus chassis set up will define the series.

So I've been thinking about this situation a lot today and while this certainly sucks for Rossi and all of his fans, there is a silver lining here. Spies is not contracted to Tech3, he is contracted to Yamaha. I'm willing to bet that Spies is going to take Rossi's place in the Fiat Yamaha team until Rossi is ready to race again. Then Tech3 will backfill the open spot, maybe someone like Tamada or Nakano.

The real interesting thing to me is that if Spies does get 'called up' will Tom Houseworth, his crew chief for the past 5 years, get called up also or will Spies work with Burgess...?

jeremy Burguess will not work with anyone but Rossi. If Rossi ever leaves MotoGP (unlikely now that in 2012 they'll go to 1000cc with restrictions) he'll take his crew chieff with him.

I read elsewhere that since Spies is a rookie (in Motogp) he can't ride for a works team his first year.

Stole these from another forum:

Hope the Doctor recovers quick with his injury. About replacement rider, some names have been thrown out there but I would LOVE to see Colin gets Vale's seat, and Mladin (that's right!!!) gets the call to Tech 3 ride, then Ben and Mat would be like old time, pushing each other to the max and get some good results in MotoGP. Why Mat, you ask? He's sitting at home doing nothing but he's been in MotoGP before.
