Spies to pay $2M

Spies is the best part of $2m lighter following a decision by some panel or other in America
By David Miller

MotoGP stars Ben Spies and Loris Capirossi have had to cough up to debts to their respective former agent and taxman to the tune of almost $4m.

An arbitration panel in America has told Spies he owes his former agent Doug Gonda $1.9m while Capirossi, who is no stranger to brushes with the Italian inland revenue, reportedly owes $2m as the authorities don't believe he lives and operates in Monaco.

According to our friends at in the States, Spies' company Speez Racing, and the rider himself, were liable for wrongly terminating a contract with Gonda's company Protac after it was alleged the firm failed to do various things including getting the Texan a MotoGP ride.

The panel deemed this to be bollocks and ordered Speez Racing to rapidly find its wallet. Capirossi, meanwhile, has been fingered by the Italians, say the stout chaps at, for non-payment of back taxes as they don't believe for one second he lives in Monaco.

You'll be pleased to know we have taken all the legal speak out of this which will probably get us sued... the things we do for you...
