Money changes alot of people and money hasnt changed you. I respect that sir.

First time I have seen this
Pretty cool.
Not sold on it yet though and not sure if the video drives the point home.
Seemed each time I guess just a coincidence when you went from road to night vision it was same time on coming traffic picked up providing more light for the night vision system to make use of.

Really needs to be a heads up display, or maybe some day cars will not have windshields.

Pay close attention to the right side of the screen, you can see a tail light of a bike then after i activated the night vision you can completely see the rider and the whole bike, not just the tail light..... from the video you cannot really appreciate the details of the night vision but from the driver's seat you can even tell what model of the bike it is and the brand of jacket his wearing even when the bike was next to my car you could barely see him completely, and the busa had blue LEDs ON the whole time!
I highly doubt your claims concerning the effectiveness of the the night vision gadget in your Benz. I will gladly take your Benz for a weekend and conduct my own scientific tests. Of course a weekend may not be long enough to conduct a very scientific tests, therefore I may have to borrow it for a week.

I'd like to see the effectiveness on a country road at night. I bet it would really show the capabilities of the night vision if you do a video demo out in a really dark road in the country.

it does make a huge difference. IR can make out images three times the distance as the headlights(xenon)

the new F01 also has person recognition and in europe, one of the four front cameras reads the speed limit signs and displays it in the HUD as well.

couple all that w the camera that recognizes the lane and warns you when your close to the line/end of the road by vibrating the steering wheel, laser guided cruise control that can speed, stop the car completely etc,, blind spot recognition cameras that will inform you if somone is passing you before you change a lane, navigation.... its not a matter of a dui anymore, car pretty much is driving itself.

Cadillac was the first, and came out with a Raytheon-developed system that was HUD in '99. They offered it for a few years, but I guess not enough people wanted it and they discontinued the option. I believe that Hummer offered it as well on at least one of the (civilian) models. The Mercedes version is very nice, and pretty helpful once you get used to looking at the dash instead of the road. I think Lexus might be the only current one to offer a night vision system with HUD.

it would be so awsome to have it in the windshield instead of an lcd

You know.nobody has to buy a car to get that technology

a black and white camera, with a few I.R. lamps is all you need..(that's all that it is) sure it's a little clunky to D.I.Y. but you can make it a true H.U.D if one desired.

I understand some of the initial arguments to a point. All of these little gadgets are meant to help, being used as reference, not to be used solely for the course of driving. Sure with enough gadgets one could completely navigate to a destination, but it doesnt rule out other traffic (for example C.Lindberg, who NAVIGATED only by instrument, this did not eliminate traffic/human error by others in the air)

using only gadgets, and not "looking out the window" is bad business. that would be like a navy Blue Angels pilot using only his instruments to run the course of the airshow in extreme close proximity to those he should be "reading paint" with. in essence, thats kind of like us on the freeways.

technology HELPS , but nothing replaces a good set of eyeballs on the road.

(allthough, I do agree that it is a pretty cool feature! thanks for sharing I just wish the camera had "wide view"...cause you KNOW SOMEONE is going to hit a car/bike in blindspot..and the argument would be by stupid person "its not my fault, it was dark, and I was using night vision"..

i used it while driving at night from Houston to New Orleans and it helps you see the cops parked in the dark areas really well!
