Hand Signal Question

I was coming home from work the other day on LA 108, a road that almost never has cops. I typically ride it at speeds well over the 55 MPH speed limit. I did see a cop, so I thought it would be wise to signal this to all of the drivers and riders that I approached. I have known the signal for some time, but I was wondering if the drivers and riders that I signalled knew what I was talking about. My signal was to tap the top of my helmet with my left hand. Is this universal? Is something else universal? Do you know?

I'm not sure if cars would know what you meant, but other bikes sure will.

Tap on your helmet to a fellow rider in a cage and he/she would know what you are talking about but most cagers wouldn't. The headlights hi/low beam means more to most cagers as mentioned above.

I had a guy on a cruiser just recently to the "pat" off to the side of the handlbars with his left hand. There was a blackand white up the road.
