I always took 10 to 71 back in the day when I would head back to school. Still go that way actually. It is/was more convenient and I am not a fan of all the little towns on 290.

Is the 290 route better for riding up to Austin , as far as traffic is concerned ?

I frequent 290. As for traffic, it is a little slower pace than the I-10/71 route due to the small towns but the scenery is much better. The small towns are all speed traps but not too bad. Same as passing through Ellinger. I prefer 290 unless I plan on running 80 then I do I-10/71. Be careful out there.

Hey everyone , we had a nice time at the rally.
Went down Saturday & stayed until Sunday.
We hung out mostly on 6th street, hit a few bars & cruised Austin.
Saw some really sweet bikes, nice ride going & coming from Austin.
Not crazy about the late night ride back to our house in Flatonia, saw a few deer on hwy 95 [ smithville area ] & a darn rabbit just barely missed running under my bike.
Hope everyone else had a nice time too & a safe ride back.
Well , Lone Star Rally soon .

I really wanted to go this year, but a family issue came up.

I spent Friday and Saturday at a Hotel in Temple right on I-35, approximately 70 miles north of Austin. There were countless bikes that rumbled by.

And, now I sit in another hotel in Waco right on I-35 since Sunday around noon. Boy, when they opened up the gates...there were bikes like all get out! I could only watch and weep that I didn't get to participate.

If I'm not dead next year, I will be there come or high water!

It was my first ROT Rally, off the hook. took 290 there and it wasnt bad at all. I averaged about 75 mph to 80 mph and not a cop in sight. had to pass though like 2 small towns, they were good for a brake.

lol , no trailer for me.
Our baby sitter is booked for the weekend , so we might drive up on Saturday because we might have our daughter with us.
If we get a baby sitter ,then the wife & I will ride up for sure.
My wife told me , I could ride up by myself though if we don't get a baby sitter & she would stay with our daughter.
