bike for sale with no key

A craig's list seller has a bike for sale that has no papers, keys, etc. he came into it through a storage facility and just wants to get rid of it, it looks nice and he said he'd sell it for 300 as is... if this was actually legit, how hard/how much time would it take to get a key to it if everything else was ok?

Take it to a lock smith and they can cut a key in no
time for around $120. But you have to have proof of ownership. Title or something.

Key words are if this is legit. This sounds like a story of a stolen bike. No papers. No key. Sounds stolen to me.

i can see no good coming from this...but for $300, i'd just switch it to a keyless ignition and track it

At least you will avoid cops. Get the vin ran. Make sure its not stolen. Please. This just seems stolen to me.

well if you buy it getting a title ill be a hassle, you will have to have to put a storage lien on it, wait 60 days for the regestered oner to respond, if they want it they have to pay you for the amount you have into it, or they could sue you and you would be forced to turn over the bike and loose. i did this with a truck many years ago.i saw the bike it looks very clean for its age , however since its been sitting for quite a while you will have to do some severe maintanance such as carb cleaning oil change draining of gas tank changing fuel filter. and you dont want to do all that until you have a clean title in hand.but hey what do i know im just a noob...
