While I'm trying to find the actual code...

Quote:
Answer: Texas adopted the federal rules 49 C.F.R. Section 571.108; under Texas transportation code 547.3215. USE OF FEDERAL STANDARD. Lighting on required and auxilliary lighting equipment is also regulated by other State Laws and the Texas Administrative Code. Long and short of it is, Headlamps must be white, auxillary driving lamps must be white, fog lamps must be white or yellow, front turn signals may be white or amber, front side marker lamps and reflectors must be yellow, rear side marker lamps and reflectors must be yellow, stop lamps must be red, rear tail lamps must be red or amber, rear turn indicators may be red or amber and rear back up lamps must be white.
In addition by adopting Federal Standards as State Law, you may not place anything over a lighting device, reflector that would reduce the effectiveness of that lighting device or reflector. Therefore, smoked lens covers and decorative covers on the rear lighting devices are illegal.

Pop your head out of your and grow up. If you had 1/2 a brain cell you'd note that no statement was made in regards to wether he should/shouldn't do it, but that he should be aware of the possible ramifications of doing so.

Yes it is illegal in Texas under the "Traffic" code in the Texas Penal Code Book. But at the same time if its not to dark then its not illegal. The statue states that the brake light and tail light have to emit/be seen for a certain ditance. With that being said if its slightly tinted but still can be seen from a good distance then its NOT illegal.
