My DWI consequences

So I went to court Thursday and this is what was pinned on me.
  • 1 year probation
  • 6 months of having a breathing machine in my car
  • 35 hours community service
  • 1 day at Mothers against drunk drivers
  • Over $2000 in fines

This is a quick way to learn your lesson fast. I am actually happy to have this device in my car because it makes it impossible to drink and drive unless you have someone else breathe into the machine but I aint fixin to get in trouble again. I am dissapointed in my actions of course and just thank it wasn't any worse with a wreck or possible injuries or death of those around me. I'm also thankful I didn't get my license suspended too... that would have sucked big time. The only downfall is no more riding the bike for at least 6 months. :BangHead: Oh well... I thought I would share for those of you that decide to get behind the wheel drunk again.

Does riding include tracktime or only on the street? I have never seen that device on a car either, get pics lol

Have you an idea where you'll be doing community service? I know you can try at the YMCA, if you're into sports it can be fun teaching kids about sports.

Hey no problem

Ill get a pic later on of the device. I could get a device on my bike but you gotta pay to have these things and its like $55 a month for each vehicle. Plus I dont think it would work to well because you have to breathe into it periodically while driving and I dont think its possible while wearing a helmet. Sounds too dangerous.

Alice, X is sooooooooo played out.

I had one two years ago. I had suspended license for 6 months and it destroyed me financially, I had to sell my car (how I loved that car) and some other things. Had to start driving a cheap truck (how I hate driving freaking trucks!), but the good thing was it made me concentrate more on bikes than sports cars. I got hooked on the track and bikes have been my motoring life ever since.

I have one more year to go before the conviction goes off my driving record and I can get a new vehicle. Still paying the fine. I have managed to come this far without my insurance company rechecking my driving history and throwing my rates through the roof. Also bear in mind that this will be on your criminal history FOREVER, you cant expunge it.

My advice is lay low for these 3 years, and dont change insurance companies or your policy in any way so that they dont check your history, then know about your conviction and jack your rates. Get SR-22 through a different insurance company, there is a Progressive guy off Kirby/59 who has good rates for that. Mine was 33/month or so.

What's ironic is that I hardly ever drink. In my case I went to a Chivas Regal scotch tasting, got bombed, and took my then-girlfriend (fiery latina!) out in downtown. We got in an argument while I was driving so I pulled into a pay parking lot so I wouldnt be driving and yelling at the same time. I was so hyped up that I then got into an argument with the attendant, he called the HPD over, and they arrested me for DWI while I was parked with the engine running.

I hired a lawyer and I decided not to go to fight in court, I took the plea bargain so I didnt get the ignition lock and community service. 2nd biggest mistake of my life. So now I tell people, buy the best lawyer you can and fight it at all costs no matter what it is. Pay now, take it as a lesson...but do whatever it takes to keep it off your record. Money you can regain but a conviction can stay with you for life.
