ya the GSX eclipse was a pretty cool car, but too many problems with the setup. Im not sure why but maintence was a bi*tch, so people didn't buy them much, but they are the best one to find. The 3000GT is a great car, but the wieght makes it a slugger. They are fast, but have top end power. Im working on making my galant a VR-4. right now

Good choice going with RWD.

If you like rowing the gearbox and motorcycle-like redlines, get the S2000.

If you like more torque and a newer platform, 350Z would be my pick.

Personally, of the ones you mentioned I would go with the S2000 with hardtop option...they look great and perform great. I saw a video of an S2000 racing M3's, RX-7, some others at Motegi in Japan...S2k won. Great vid, I'll try to upload later. Great vids because they show in car perspective with tach and foot position.

Also have a japanese vid of the NSX vs lambos, porsche, etc. If you have some extra bucks, a used NSX would be a good option.

so i had this same dillema before i bought the s2k.......

325ci convertible/350z/s2k/rx8

325 only because i live in clear lake and everone has BMW's....so after thinking about it...i wanted something different...

350z..once i looked up the reliability on it..i turned away. 2003 had tire feathering problem since suspension was set up incorrectly. then they had i believe a limited recall for the 2004 transmissions...

s2k..came in kinda biased since every can our family owns is honda except my dad's mercedes 300sel...but they fixed all the problems with gears they had in 00-01, gave it a better trans, and a glass rear window for 2002. plus the one i bought already had all the mods i would have done to it ..so that saved me some $$$

rx8 has terrible resale value (as with most mazda's) ebay an new x8 vs a slightly used one..and see how much its dropped in price already...plus when i test drove it ..since it has the rotary engine, the dealer saidthat I should check the oil every other fill-up...ghey.

so i bought the s2k....

i get about 22-26 mpg depending on how long i have the top down or up, and of course if i'm doing a lot of freeway driving or not.

Ok everyone who says the supra is reliable has not ever owned one. Sure its a reliable car if you can afford the maintnence. I had one with low milage and it still gave me . The 60k maintnence was almost 1500 and I didnt even want to make it to 100k to end up paying for that one. They are semi easy to work on though, and alot can be done by yourself and a few buddies. The supra is out of the question for you... but I just wanted to clear that up.

I currently own a 350Z (roadster), Its what I sold the supra for. So far it has been reliable, but then again its an 04 so I didnt have the feathering problems. At 5k miles I got the Greddy TT kit and that was somewhat of a nightmare, but then again I was the first roadster to have the kit and it was only the third kit greddy sold in the US. The Z has plenty of potential and is overall a great driving car. Thats my pic.

If you need 4 seats look into a G35 coupe.

RX-8 Is great for what it is. Its not a "fast" car but then again it can turn with the best of them. Its very nimble, but then again your S2k is much better than the 8. One thing that always worried me about the S2k though is the high compression. I am going to assume you are going to pick up a slightly used one, so you may want to go to one of the newer models that has the lower compression. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that the rotory motor on the 8 may give you some problems, so keep that in mind. One apex seal fails, then your motor is gone.

Any way..... Long story short go Z

the 350 z is an outstanding platform.
If you've narrowed it down between the RX8, 350z and an s2k, you'd prolly be better off with the 350z. RX8's guzzle down gas if you decide to get a lil frisky with speed:BangHead: , and since yur pretty tall, honda wouldn't do you any favors. All imports wanna be a nissan .lol 350s are sumthin else tho, go for it man, the best of luck to you.

I had two E46 3-series cars....a 325xi AWD (I lived in chicago at the time) and an M3. I think the 3-series is kinda overpriced new, but once you drive one for a while it changes your perspective on steering for one thing. The 325xi had a 40/60 torque split with bias to the rear so that it felt like a RWD car. It drove well and maintenance was EASY.

The 3's are very reliable and they are the easiest cars to change oil on since the filter housing is located on top of the motor and screws off. I used to use a marine oil vacuum pump to suck out the oil through the dipstick tube, change the filter, and I'm done in 5 minutes. The filter design is so good you could go 15k miles between oil changes. No jack stands or crawling underneath. The inline 6 is one of the most balanced engine designs you will find as well.

I had a 2002 M3 6 speed and it had great handling and power, but I hated the gearshift compared to the 5 speed on the 325...it was notchy and not as precise as the 325 gearbox, amazingly enough. The extra power was worth it though. However, if you can find a 330i ZHP code car used, I think those are the best value. They have a short throw 6 speed gearbox that's IMHO superior to the M3, have upgraded power over the standard 330i, and have that Imola Red M color that is just sick. And they're cheaper than an M3. I test drove one of these when they came out and they have good power, sublime handling, and 4 doors.

If you're going to spend the money for a BMW, I wouldnt buy the new Bangle-ized flame surfaced 3's. I would buy a 2002.5 or up M3 (the '01s and early '02s had a bearing recall) or the ZHP 330i used. They both hold value REALLY well and will last a long time. You can tell the 2002.5 M3's because they have the LED tail lights. I think you can find older M3's for the same price as you would pay for a new standard 3.

Ya i bet it would. I mean it all comes down to what type of power people want, cause when it all comes down to it, your not gonna be able to beat everyone you see at your local meet. I mean there are just too many factors involved. If i were you, i would get something that looked great and had the speed to back it up.

Its kinda like motorcycles bro. if everyone is riding on the freeway and we can all keep up at 130 mph with no problem (excluding 250cc) then you have a great bike with potential to be better.

are u guys seriously saying that a supra is reliable? My old supra along with most of the people and the supra forums that have supra's that are pretty much stock and not a new engine or rebuilt engine have ahd probs... eventually i just gave up and sold it and got the saleen. my saleen is more reliable than it was. The supra left me stranded over 8 times, the saleen has left me stranded once and that was only cuz i was still on my stock clutch and power shifting while racing a vette and fried it. heh.
