Eh, started off just playing devil's advocate and I really thought this cop was a total nutjob and honor's was just getting picked on but as time went on I started seeing in the other way around, with honor's being a nutjob and this cop getting picked on. I'd prefer a healthy debate, I'm not the one making high school threats about seeing someone off the board

I was surprised by the number of noise violations written in a nine month period. I thought with all of the uproar that it would have been significantly higher.

I still am of the opinion the Holstclaw is a douche nozzel of enormous proportion, but that doesn't make him wrong in performing his duties.

Hopefully this media attention and subsequent rides/petitions will bring enough attention to the matter to get this all resolved in the law books. It will be interesting to see what happens if the law gets concreted contrary to what the riders want it to be.

Which leads into another comment. Think about it. Laws are made by legislators that have a 4yr degree at least and maybe a JD. But then we expect someone (officers) to understand and uphold those laws who are only required to an associates degree. Not saying that degrees are the milestone of intelligence. Just that the laws are written in such legalese that they are not easily understood and comprehended by the "common man".

Here's an interesting observation that was told to me before. Police and Convicts often profess to have fantastic understandings of the law. But just because you've worked at a Burger King for 30 years does not make you a master chef or culinary critic.

Here is the city ordinance in question:

Houston City Ordinance Sec. 30-3. - Noisy vehicles generally.

The use of any motor vehicle so out of repair, so loaded, or so noisy that it creates any loud and unreasonable grating, grinding, rattling, or any other loud and unreasonable sound is hereby prohibited and declared to be unlawful.

Looking at the statute, the intent of the legislators can be supposed. The line that legislators draw is writing a law that will stop whatever it is the legislator thinks is a problem, but not making it so narrow that it can easily be skirted.

A similar thing happened with the Texas legislature passing laws forbidding anything covering the TEXAS on license plates. The intention was to outlaw covers or other devices that shielded the plates from tollway cameras. The result was that officers were pulling motorists over for their school/dealer plate frames.

I'm sure there was some cop just doing his job and waging war on those heinous offenders too.

You could polish up a . At the end of the day it is still a . Pasadena once had an officer Thorton. He was an abusive habitual line stepper. He did take credit for one really good arrest. He was relentless in the pursuit of a child abuser and murderer. He caught the . In the end his glory of that fine work was over shadowed by his ambitions to be a head. He is no longer on the force.

I'm glad you plan on going to court with yours and I hope you win, based on your scenario you posted I think there are some valid points of concern, much like the deal with the business card Atex got on his bike.

However there are facts that must be kept in mind.. the law/ordinance itself first and foremost.
Then the numbers provided in the news report, you'd think he's pullnig people over left and right, yet the #'s in the news report don't seem to support that.
Reality, there ARE vehicles out there with exhaust sounds levels that are beyond obnoxious... the definition of 'obnoxious' is going to vary from individual to individual.
The man is doing his job... maybe being overzealous with one aspect, maybe not. IA is investigating it, they'll make a determination and there's a movement in place to address the arbitrary manner (Ie: Decibel meter) that it appears the officer in question may support.

...while we're on the track and I recall some of your vent in regards to whe Holst stopped arrested you, I find ironic with your post here of implied threat towards Dvl merely because he has an opposite standpoint.
you too Ulric.

Its not because Dvl is on the opposite side - its because he's a .

Only beer I'd give that piece of is some recycled beer.

Any cop who abuses his authority in any way deserves to be -raped by an elephant and then gut shot and left to die in the street.

The ones who do their jobs well deserve a paycheck - nothing more.

They are not heroes, they are simply state, city or county employees doing a job.
