However, you can be arrested for going 10 mph over the speed limit for refusal to sign the ticket, obstructing justice, etc etc etc etc etc. I highly doubt the reason for his arrest was listed as "excessive noise." I have read his story and I just hope it is all on video and that the video shows up in court and to the public afterward.

Which is reckless driving, so once again can't get arrested for speeding.

Well my friend, you were not there.

The reason for the arrest was different. The reason for the STOP on the other hand, was not.

When a cop can detain a law abiding citizen for anything he well pleases and the citizen is expected to shut up and pay the fine, there is a serious problem.

I am sorry for you that you cannot understand why that bothers some people.

A judge has the authority to fine, not a cop

the noise ordinance for the city doesnt specifically refer to the exhaust on bikes

in fact its just a general ordinance for motor vehicles, it just says they can't be noisy.

this definitely leaves the officer with a lot of room to do as he wants unfortunately.

When have I EVER implied one should "shut up and pay the fine?" I suggest you stick to the facts, it'll make the debate much easier to follow.

True but just rolling over when the cop tickets you gives him the authority to force you to lose time and money to resist his illegal actions - and gives tacit permission TO those actions if they are not resisted.

These: http://rinehartracing.com/exhausts/s...flers/500-0101

Legal in all states other than CA due to CA emissions control laws.

Stock head pipes

My bike has no catalyst from the factory as it was not required in 2009.

They are designed to be fairly quiet, and in fact, are quieter than virtually every non-stock pipe, including 50-state legal pipes in the HD P&A catalog. They're actually quieter than many stock pipes on other machines.

You argue in court, not with a cop, that was your first mistake. I'm not taking sides, just stating fact

When you're detained for an illegal reason, i see nothing wrong with informing the officer he is mistaken.

It is no different than being detained for walking on the sidewalk or traveling through a green light.

The officer's willful misrepresentation of reality does not magically become justified just because he has a badge.

If I remember correctly being detained and being arrested are two different things. Mind you there is a very thin line between them but still different.
