Dirt gear help plz

So what kind of protective gear do all you guys wear when racing/riding? I have no clue where to start. I am going to be doing my first race next month so I need some gear. All I have right now is a helmet and boot lol. Like knee pads vs knee braces. Neck brace? If so what kind. Just the pad or the full blown leatt. Is there one chest protector better than the other? I have been eying the fly convertible rock deflector with hydro pack. Looks pretty trick. http://www.flyracing.com/products/ra...-hydropack-kit Thanks for any help or insight guys.

I've looked into knee braces, and in my opinion, if you don't need it then don't wear them. Here's a thread I started awhile ago about braces: http://www.motohouston.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=99277

My list so far for next month:
have--boots, gloves, dainese safety jacket, jersey, helmet w goggles, camelbak
need to buy--quality pants

Until I can splurge on a leatt or A*, for now, these caught my eye while walking through cycle gear:
EVS20rc320race20collar 310x310
evs rc 3 race collar blu MD
$45 & $40 MSRP respectively.

Up until I can buy one of these:
astrs bionic neckbrace MD
leatt adv neckbrc MD

Thats what I was looking at the EVS one. I think that would suit me better than a full brace because I do more trail riding than racing.

I bought these awhile back and wear 'em at MNMs
evs 09gldr kneepds MD

May be too bulky for trail riding, but it works for asphalt, and most likely good enough for dirt. I always check the CG clearance rack for mx pants. Everything is still above $50 tho

check denniskirk.com in the closeout store for MX pants. It may be last years colorways but its still new and way cheap. They also have all the rest of the gear

chad you still rocking those blue astars i gave you?

KNEES:
i have a extra set of knee/shins protectors that Firemalt gave me when I could not find mine. Well I found mine hidden deep in a stack of boxes headed towards the goodwill (wife giving my stuff away again!), so these are up for the "Pay it forward" MX gear giveaway!

CHEST:
i have a small Fox chest protector...up for the taking for drinks after the race if anyone is interested. i don't use this anymore since i purchased a chest/back/elbow jacket.

I have passed those A stars on to my dad they fit him better. I upgraded. They were on the small side for me anyways. Thanks again. I have a set of knee pads but they don't go well with my boots. On a shopping spree right now lol. Just gotta figure out what to buy haha.

I have a leatt and i'm thouroughly convinced it saved my life. Makes sure you have a good helmet, Knee pads(i like the thor ones because they grab your thigh so they don't slip) a chest protector(i have a thor sentinel) gloves, and jersey and pants. oh and goggles. i've raced for 7 years and have had my share of bad accidents, trust me you need to get the best gear you can cause you don't wanna have to regret it!

Helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, riding pants, jersey, chest protector, kneepads. Elbow pads i'd consider optional. Neck braces are nice, i wouldn't consider them a necessity but that's just me.

Get a gear bag if you don't have one. Makes carrying all that around soo much easier.

I wear a helmet, boots, knee/shin guards, and a chest protector....and cheesy fox racing gloves....

As I get more ballsy and a tad bit faster, I'll probably increase the $$$ I spend on my gear....those trees jump out at you faster than you'd believe.
