Thunderstar is very impressive but the other two just begs the question. Why?

The Thunderstar seems like it has promise although the idea of a diesel powered bike seems odd to me.
The amazonas weighs 793lbs and makes 65hp! Enough said...
The RE5 was almost like an experiment. That was a period when the mfr's were trying to figure out what people would pay for. Honda had the CX500 which couldn't power it's way out of a wet paper sack, Yamaha had the Seca 750 Turbo which was ok but the turbo lag made spirited riding difficult.
Rotary engines were all in the headlines and seemed like they had great promise so I suppose Suzuki thought, "What the , we'll throw it out there and see if it sells".

Check this out. I stumbled on this while I was pokin around.

ya. suzuki should bring back the re-5....just to do something different.

i remember reading quite alot about that bike. a few different factors led to its demise that could have been prevented. it had a problem with the exhaust being placed in such a way that the riders legs would get hot...not good since it was made mostly as a touring bike...who wants a hot leg all day long? also...the rotary is always critisized for being low on the MPG's. also not good for a touring bike, and to top it off, there was a significant increase in fuel prices near its release...making the problem that much worse.

i think suzuki ought to give it another chance, and this time work out more of the bugs before hand, and also consider other applictions for the engine. from what i understand, rotaries pack alot of HP into a smaller space...so maybe rotary off road bikes could be cool. or something like a street/standard, to fill the same role as the gs500, but being even smaller/lighter and/or more powerful. now that would be cool!
