Odd Ducks Round 2 - April 25th

OK... so the odd ducks run was a bust (only 2 of us there) but it got a lot of "press" in the weeks to follow... so for all of you who were bummed you missed it, here's a chance to fly your odd-duck flag (we really should have one made up... I'll mount one of those old school flag poles on my SV... the kind you're parents put on your bike so cars wouldn't hit you... LOL).

I wanna hear from all the twinners, sideways pasta rockets (comon Guzzi... this is your chance to ride that pink and purple beast into the annals of history... LOL), 2-fiddys, korean bikes (yes, Cali... that makes you twice as much an odd duck), old school pimp daddy bikes (the ones with the HUGE fiberglass fairings), mopeds... you name it... We're gonna break like the wind and take the town of Fulshear, TX by storm !!!

If you super sport guys wanna come hang, I guess that's ok too... LOL

I want suggestions on a meet time... I was thinking 8 or 9 am so those who have things to do can still get them done... Feedback on this???

Johnny

I'll join you guys but I'm supposed to be at work by noon on Saturdays, so the earlier the better for me (sunday would be been ideal ...jic HMFIC can't make it).

8am is good - that way I can get more ride time in before heading back. I guess it all depends on how long of a route is planned, but I'm in even if it's just for part of it. I'm eager to get this "odd ducks" thing rolling along!

Back to the beginning

OK... so let's stick with Sunday then... We'll go early... 8am at the meet spot... Which is in Fulshear, TX. if you're unfamiliar with it... Google it... The shell station we meet at is on 1093 and main street right dead center of town. It's a map dot of a town and that's really the only intersection ... so you can't really get lost.

The route we'll do can be kept to a simple Racer's Road run... we can go back and forth a few times and have designated rally points so no one gets lost who hasn't done this route before... We'll initially meet in Fulshear... then we'll do the 1498 Run ... it's short, but the turns are super tight and there is a hairpin style turn and a few that are close to 135 degrees... so it's a lot of fun ... then head up through Brookshire and Pattison to 1458 ... The turns on this road are not as tight, but they are still fun and the run is longer... and then Rally at the statue on the south side of the bridge... total run time is less than 30 mins and we end up within a mile of I-10 on each leg of the run... so if someone needs to bail, they don't have to wonder how to get back to town. We can do several passes ... I like going back and forth because it allows you to get a feel for the route in both directions. I would caution you though... that if we make more than 4 passes (2 complete circuits back and forth) we'll probably start to attract the fuzz... they came out a couple weeks ago to see what was going on... no one got stopped, but we also slowed down when we saw him. I didn't... and it was probably a bad idea to wave at him as I was mid-turn just under triple digit speeds... I keep having to tell myself... both hands on the controls idiot... both hands... LOL

If we can get enough people together, and do some planning, then we can make the next ride a longer route... but it seems like most of y'all work on the weekends... I just happen to be fortunate enough not to have a real job... LOL I am on a research project for the university and get to make my own hours...

Shall we start a sign up list? So we can see how many will make it for Sunday at 8am ...

Cool... after the ride we can talk tech shop about suspension set up... I'm thinking I need to order heavier springs and back off on the pre-load... I got 0.9's (I weigh about 220) because it was in between the recommended spring rates of .87 and .93 for street and race... plus they only come in .05 kg increments... so it was wither go up to .95 or down to .85... I thought .9 would be perfect, but I think it's too light... Might go to a .95 or a 1.0 ... I also think I need to open up the dampening and go with a thicker oil (I have the cartridge emulators on mine set at 2 turns and 15 wt synthetic in the forks). If you're not a tech geek like me, I'm probably speaking chineese... let me know...

Wtf, is this an AA or sober living support group? 8am!?!

How about you circle back and pick me up at the meet at 9am? HMFIC can get an extra hour of sleep, too, which may make the ride more enticing for him.

8am?!?

OK.. fine... 9am, we'll circle back around for you at the Shell in Fulshear... You better have my coffee in your hand when I show up too !!! LOL

BTW... While I'm here... the Po-Po's around Brookshire and San Felipe are getting bad... I got pulled over twice this week for "driving suspiciously"... which means they wanted to screw with someone... they're less likely to do it to a group of us, but you never know. Make sure ALL of your paperwork is in order so they can't give you a ticket for something stupid like no bike license or no insurance and make sure your lights work before you get out here (maybe the day before would be a good idea). If you have a plate bracket with no light on it, change it... becuase they seem to be looking for any excuse to pull over bikers out here these fins spring mornings... Why??? Because they're D!(Ks !!!

I'm out. I'll take my chances on the Livingston ride, instead. Will have to be an odd duck another weekend.

ARRGHH!!!

I won't be able to ride Sunday... There's something going on with my bike and I need to get it sorted out so I can make it back and forth to school and work... So for the time being ... all my joy riding has gone out the window.
