if you read earlier, I said that I wasn't getting on the back for a few weeks.
And from what people say, a Triumph isn't a bad bike.

I think his point was that a 100+HP bike is a bad choice for a first... which is why most look to a 250cc or 500cc for a first rig.

It's not his first time riding, FAR FROM IT, it's just his 1st bike to own.

triumph isn't a bad bike, but it is a bad first bike.

applies to all 600SS bikes, incl. triumph

Since before I knew him...he rode dirt bikes as a teenager... Don't getme wrong, he doesn't ride on a daily basis or anything like that, but along with the class, I have confidence that he knows what he is doing.

i don't know how good or bad he is, but IMO, he needs alot more miles on his own bike before you should get on board. taking a passanger is not a game, and people die everyday on bikes, let alone passangers.

riding friends bikes is alot diff. then owning your own bike.

and dirt experience is great.........but it's no replacement for street experience. and it's been a long time since he was a teen, and street bikes are a hella lot faster and less forgiving then street bikes.

I'll tell you. A LOT has to do with confidence in one's ability to ride. Without it, one has no business being on a bike. My first bike was a '75 Yami 400 Enduro (two-stroke). It was a beast but I didn't own it that long plus that was back in the early 90's. I went 10+ years without riding before I bought the V-Rod. I stayed off of the freeway until was completely comfortable with it then also took the MSF which enhanced my comfort and confidence. A nervous rider is the worst type - whether on a bike or in a cager... then there's the idiots who ride wheelies down the freeway :eh:

whats the diff. from immediately and a few weeks.......in bike mileage a few weeks is immediately.......

if he gets in 1000mi over 2 weeks (and thats alot of miles for the time frame), lets say at 60mph

thats 17 hrs of riding.........in other words not alot of seat time.........miles are more important then time.

How about this...he doesn't get a bike at all, and it no longer becomes a problem? Like I said, thanks for the concern, and advice, we will take it into account. We'll figure this one out, thank you.

i bet long was longer then "a few weeks"

sorry if you don't like what your reading, but it's coming from experienced riders vs the anticipatory rider.

my thats mighty mature.........don't like constructive criticism? nobody said DON'T get a bike.........just take it easy.......these bikes are no joke, and people get hurt/killed very easily. when a bike does 0-60 in 3 sec. it only takes .01 sec to get you killed, you have kids to think about.

as an riding instructor and long time sportbiker, i see it all to often..........think about it vs getting angry over it.
