The Dragon is no joke. Not a good place to get stupid, unless you do it early in the morning before everyone else shows up.

You either go off the mountain, or into it. That's about it.

Apart from possibly surviving that crash, I'll tell you how this dumbass is really lucky. He's lucky a group of sportbikes wasn't coming the other way, booking it through that section and colliding with him head on. I've had some close calls there myself, but it mostly had to do with running up on a slow pack of bikes or a car/18wheeler after a blind corner. I've had to cross the lane a few times to avoid hitting some people. Lucky for me nobody was coming the other way and I was able to stay on the road, unlike this idiot.

Videos give no justice to just how tight the corners and elevation changes are at Deal's Gap. It doesn't take a whole bunch to turn one little mistake into one BIG problem up there.

It looked like target fixation to me. That and a lack of rider skill.

Both of them were hard on the rear brake and just drove straight off the road. Either one could have made it with less rear brake and the mindset of, "I'm gonna make it, come or high water".
RoadracerNC is right though, videos don't convey how tight some of the turns can be and that there is little room for error. It's either, a rock wall or a steep, tree covered drop off, with almost no shoulder.

I get sick everytime I drive it with my truck.smiley sick007

But yes, very, very beautiful rode for riding......if you're smart about it.

I always enjoyed the rides through the Skyway (Cherohala) more than the Dragon though. The Dragon was too much work. You hardly got to soke up the ride and actually enjoy it. That's why we always rode it in the morning when it's empty, so we got the stupid out of our system and could enjoy the long, high altitude sweepers of the Skyway without feeling rushed.

FVCK! I want to go back.

Mine was a pretty casual drive. I had my ex with me. She hated any sort of speed. I rolled on a few times exiting corners, and hung the out 2 or 3 (only to get slapped and biched at). With the top down and relatively slow pace, I got to take the scenery in.

Haha. I think it mostly had to do with my truck sitting as high off the ground as it does, and the swaying back and forth from turning got me a little sea sick (which oddly enough never really happens to me).
