Getting homesick - Hill Country may be antidote..

I have ridden very little in the last 10 months. Between surgery, moving, work and just not knowing a person or place to ride.

When I lived in North Georgia, we were close to the mountains and hit them often (Wolf Pen, 180, 60, 129/Blood Mountain, Cherohola Skyway, Richard Russel Parkway, the Gap etc.) WICKED roads in the Appalachians. I was watching a vid on YouTube of someone on a Gixxer running the backside of Blood Mountain (yes Mastadon fans, they ARE from Atlanta and there IS a real Blood Mountain) and it completely bummed me out.

One of my old friends from Atlanta grew up in Texas and says that the closest thing here is probably The Sisters. How far, and how often? I have a fork seal to fix, but need some curves badly. Anyone planning any trips? Maybe a group trip for a week or so to Atlanta and up through the mountains may be in order in the future as well. I know a few riders there

I sold the R6 a few years ago and don't have the heart to take the 996 on the track. They just don't go down cheaply, and it's still in good shape for a 2000. I have ONE track bike left but it needs tires and a tune (and I need some skill on it). It's an old '91 Suzuki RGVm. Last time I had it out, it took my collarbone to the cleaners. Two strokes are a whole different animal on the track, and I've not ever completely got the hang of it compared to the other bikes I've had. Still, if I'd get some tires on it I'd probably be up for dusting 'ol smokey off.

Go further West. Hill country won't cure where you've been in comparison.

yeah. My long-time buddy Greg Hess played bass for a Grindcore band out of Atlanta named Withered, who were good buds with Mastodon. Matter of fact, they did a Euro-tour with them for some dates several years back and Troy from Mastodon filled in for Greg for a few gigs when Greg's wife Tracy had their son. They're good dudes. Greg lives in VA now doin' the family thing, but those were some days.
