i don't know how much bling you usually perfer, but i have always liked older Honda cb750's and they usually fly around for about $4000. Its not exactly a cruiser, just a thought.

A v-max will spank any of those above mentioned bikes in the quarter.
You can find one for say 4k-5k put a few hundred in suspension and better seat.
You will havw to wait at the corners for your fellow cruiser buds to catch up.
I am in cypress if you want to check out a couple.

Sorry, I didn't take the time to read through all of the posts...but my hubby was a sportbike rider all the way up until oct 2006 when he wrecked right after our daughter was born. He has since been riding a yamaha stratoliner (which is a little bit more than what you are looking to spend), but he absolutely loves it and the "umph" it's got. It's a 1900 cc cruiser that you can ride decked out with saddle bags, huge windscreen etc, or you can very easily take it all off and have a clean look...Anyway, at least give it a look, it may or may not be what you have in mind. Good luck tho

here is "kinda" a pic of it...this is the stratoliner next to my old r6 (gives you an idea of its size. (note hubby took off the windscreen). I think it's a darn nice lookin scooter! I will try and find more pics of the bike...this was just the first one I came across in our massive photo gallery

True. About 130 miles and you start sweating. Altho after an hour and half a 10 minute fuel break is not always bad when you are traveling.
We just made the hill country trip this last weekend. Just under 1000 miles for the weekend.
If you want to look at the v-maxes i have a couple you can check out.
Help you with looking for one also.
There just is something about the riding position and the v-boost kicking in that feels like your arms want to come out of their sockets.
